SUPPORT FOR SPlNNlNG SPlNDLlES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 391,460, dated October 23, 1888.
Application filed March 9, 1888.
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. DRAPER, of Hopedale, county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Supports for Spinning-Spindles, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention is an improvement on the bearing shown in application Serial No. 261,035, filed January 17, 1888, to which reference may be had, the object being to provide greater elasticity in the bearings. Herein the rolling-surfaces in the line of the band-pull are located within a bolster-tube mounted loosely in the bolstercase.
Mypresent invention consists, essentially, in a bolster-case, and a bolster-tube placed therein loosely and containing a bolster-bearing, having rolling-surfaces, combined with a spindle, as will be described.
Figure 1, in vertical section, shows a spindlebearing embodying my invention, the spindle being shown in elevation, with its whirl in section. Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1 in the line 0;. Fig. 3 is a vertical section showing a modification; Fig. 4., a section below the line m, Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 shows a spider detached.
The rail A, bolster case or support B, spindle O, and sleeve-whirl O are and may be all as usual. The bolster proper, which receives against it the spindle below thejunction with it of the sleeve-whirl, is composed, as herein shown, of two sets of rolling-surfaces, a 1), (shown as composed of rolls or cylinders held by spiders 0,) the pointed ends of the two sets of rolls taki rig bearing against a ring. (I. These rolling-surfaces,substantially such as shown in my said application, are placed in a bolstertube, 6, of less diameter externally than the inner diameter of the space in the bolster-case, and, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the said tube is surrounded by an elastic packing, f, preferably of fibrous material; but I may omit the said packing, as in Figs. 3 and 4, and let the Serial No. 266,729. (No model.)
outer side of the tube 0 have a loose fit in the bolster-ease.
In Fig. 3 I have shown the bolster-tube as provided with a spiral channel.
The rotation of the bolster-tube may be prevented by a pin or projection, as f, of the case entering a slot in the tube, or in other usual manner.
I do not desire to limit my invention to the form of spindle shown, the gist of my invention being in the rolls held in a tube supported loosely or in a yielding manner.
Instead of the fibrous packing, cork or metallic springs, or any usual means for enabling the bearing to move against an elastic press ure, may be used without departing from my invention, and would be within the scope of the term elastic packing.
1 claim- 1. The bolster-case, the bolster-tube placed therein loosely, and the bolster-bearing containing rolling-surfaces, combined with a spindle, substantially as described.
2. The bolster-case, the bolster-tube placed therein loosely, and the bolster-bearing containing rolling surfaces, combined with a sleeve-whirl spindle, the rolls supporting the spindle substantially in the line of the bandpull, substantially as set forth.
3. The bolster-case, the bolster-tube placed therein loosely, and the bolster-bearing containing rolling surfaces, combined with an elastic or yielding packing surrounding the said bolster-tube, and with a spindle, substantially as described.
4.. The bolstencase, the bolster-tube placed therein loosely, and the spindle, combined with two independent bolster-bearings having rolling-surfaces, substantially as described.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WM. F. DRAPER. Vitncsses:
E. D. BANCROFT, H. F. SEARLES.
