NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, GEORGE w. KELSEY, JR., on LAKE VIEW, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO MARY A. KELSEY, OF SAME PLACE.
FLY-NET FOR HORSES.
=Q31?(JIIE'ICA'LION forming part of Letters Patent No. 391,372, dated October 16, 1888.
Application filed August 7, 1888. Serial No. 282,155.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that LGEoRGE W.KELsEY,Jr.,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lake View, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, haveinvented new and usefullmprovements in Fly-Nets for Horses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, in which Figure 1 represents my improved net on a horse; Fig. 2, an enlarged broken detail thereof; Fig. 3, a detail of one of the hooked connections.
The nature of this invention consists, in brief, in a net composed of two sets of leather mesh-stripsone set on each side of the back webbing. The lower ends of these strips are woven vertically through the side webbing, turned upward to form loops below the web hing, and the ends are woven vertically in the same to form leather loops for connecting the fabric mesh cords. The leather strips are spliced in the back webbing by a lock-tie or other suitable connection. B represents the back webbing. Theleather mesh-strips J on either side are spliced at G O and woven in the web at the place of splice, as is now done, and shown in patent granted to me on November 15, 1887, No. 373,371.
The lower ends of the leather mesh-strips are woven vertically through the side webs, A A,
(No model.)
and, being turned up to form loops S,are woven vertically through the webs, as shown at N. Leather lashes, as shown at I, may be fastened to the loops S; but I prefer the netting shown at M, suitably secured to the loops S in the ordinary manner to complete the net, with square or diamond shaped meshes.
The leather mesh-strips J are locked in the web 13, for the reason that the sides of the net are supported thereby; but the ends N, woven into the webs A A, are fully sufficient to form permanent loops S for the support of the netting. By this means a non-tangling net is provided, and the surplus short leather not heretofore used can be employed at small cost for connecting the webbing.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A fly-net for horses, consisting of the back web, B, and side webs, A A, with the short leather mesh-strips J, made continuous in the back web, and theirlower ends, N, woven twice through the webs A to form loops S below the webs, and their ends terminating at the upper edges of the webs A, and the cord netting M, suspended from the loops S, as specified.
