FIG. 2
FIG.3
IRONING BOARD DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an ironing board.
Objects of the invention are to provide an ironing board of simple structure, which is inexpensive in manufacture, is utilized with facility and convenience, is fully retractable to a substantially planar condition so that it may be supported on a substantially flat surface with its supporting members retracted or supported, stored in a minimum space and handled with facility and convenience.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. I is a schematic diagram of an embodiment of the ironing board of the invention with the supporting members extended:
FIG. 2 is a bottom view of the embodiment of FIG. l with the supporting members retracted; and
FIG. 3 is a sectional view, taken along the lines III- III, of FIG. 2.
In the FIGS, the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The ironing board of the invention comprises a substantially elongated board-like member 1 having a substantially planar upper surface 2 for supporting articles to be ironed and a substantially planar under surface 3 having a plurality of recesses 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, ll, 12, 13 and 14 formed therein.
A plurality of interconnected supporting strut-like members 15, l6, l7, I8, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 are retractably accommodated in the recesses 4 to 14 of the under surface of the member 1. Thus, in the extended position of the strut-like members 15 to 24, said strut-like members extend away from the member 1 andcooperate with each other to support the member 1 in a substantially horizontal plane spaced above a supporting surface 25, as shown in FIG. I.
In the retracted position of the strut-like members 15 to 14, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, said members are retracted into the recesses 4 to 14 and present a substantially uniplariar under surface of the member 1.
While the invention has been described by means of a specific example and in a specific embodiment, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
I. An ironing board, comprising a substantially elongated board-like member having a substantially planar upper surface for supporting articles to be ironed and a substantially planar under surface having a plurality of recesses formed therein; and plurality of interconnected supporting strut-like members retractably accommodated in the recesses of the under surface of the board-like member in a manner whereby in one position of the strutlike members they extend away from the board-like member and cooperate with each other to support the board-like member in a substantially horizontal plane spaced above a supporting surface and in another position of the strut-like members they are retracted into the recesses and present a substantially uniplanar under surface of the board-like member.

Claims (1)

1. An ironing board, comprising A SUBSTANTIALLY ELONGATED BOARD-LIKE MEMBER HAVING A SUBSTANTIALLY PLANAR UPPER SURFACE FOR SUPPORTING ARTICLES TO BE IRONED AND A SUBSTANTIALLY PLANAR UNDER SURFACE HAVING A PLURALITY OF RECESSES FORMED THEREIN; AND A PLURALITY OF INTERCONNECTED SUPPORTING STRUT-LIKE MEMBERS RETRACTABLY ACCOMMODATED IN THE RECESSES OF THE UNDER SURFACE OF THE BOARD-LIKE MEMBER IN A MANNER WHEREBY IN ONE POSITION OF THE STRUT-LIKE MEMBERS THEY EXTEND AWAY FROM THE BOARD-LIKE MEMBER AND COOPERATE WITH EACH OTHER TO SUPPORT THE BOARD-LIKE MEMBER IN A SUBSTANTIALLY HORIZONTAL PLANE SPACED ABOVE A SUPPORTING SURFACE AND IN ANOTHER POSITION OF THE STRUT-LIKE MEMBERS THEY ARE RETRACTED INTO THE RECESSES AND PRESENT A SUBSTANTIALLY UNIPLANAR UNDER SURFACE OF THE BOARD-LIKE MEMBER.
