CHECK-ROW ATTACHMENT FOR CORN=PLANTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,908, dated September 4. 1888.
Application filed May 10,1888. Serial No. 274,378. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRYAN ODoNNELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vail, in the county of Crawford and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful In1- provements in Check-Row Attachments for Corn-Planters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenahle others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in check-row attachments for corn-planters; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing the figure is a plan View of my improvementattached to a corn-planter.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap and serviceable device that may be readily attached to any of the corn planters in common use.
Referring to the drawing by letters of reference, A designates the main bar, which may be of wood or any suitable material, designed to be bolted or otherwise secured to the rear end of the planter-frame.
B designates bearing-rods tenoned into or bolted to the main bar, and standing rearwardly and outwardly therefrom to a point beyond the outer side of the draft-wheels of the planter. sheave-pulleys G are journaled at the outer ends of the rods B and on the upper surface thereof.
D represents bearing-rods similar to the rods B, but somewhat shorter, and secured to the bar A at points intermediate of the ends and the connecting-point of the rods B. The rods D stand forwardly and outwardly, as shown, and are provided at the outer ends with sheavepulleys E in line with the pulleys G.
F shows metal brace-rods sccu red centrally to the ends of the bar A, and at their ends to adjacent bearing rods B D. By securing the bearing-rods to the bar A at points distant from each other the said bar is not materially weakened.
G shows the check-row wire, which may be anchored at its ends in any desired manner. As shown in the drawing, the wire engages the front side of one of the pulleys C, and runs diagonally across the frame and engages against the rear side of one of the pulleys E.
It is obvious that upon reversing the direction of the planter the wire is transferred to the opposite pulleys.
The pulleys being open and there being no other guides for the wire, the wire is easily removed when desired.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The check-row attachment consisting of the main bar A, the bearing-rods B, standing rearwardl y and outwardly therefrom, the bearingrods D, secured to the main barat a point intermediate of the ends and the junction of 65 the rods B, the sheave-pulleys journaled on the ends of said rods, and the bracerods, substantially as specified.
