UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH L. BOHANNAN, OF FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY.
SASH-CORD FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,814, dated September 4, 1888.
Application filed March 26, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. BOIIANNAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frank fort, in the county of Franklin and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Cord Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sasheord attachments; and it has forits object to provide a simple, cheap, and easily-applied device, which may be attached to the sash with but little cutting of the same.
\Vith these objects in view the invention consists in a certain novel construction and arrangement of devices, substantially set forth hereinal'terfand specifically pointed out in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a front view, partly in section, ot'a portion of a sash, showing the improved holder in the operative position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central sectional view of the holder detached from the sash. Fig. 3 is an end view of the same with the sliding plate removed. Fig.4 is a sectional view on the line :0 m of Fig. 8.
teferring by letter to the drawings, A designates a cylindrical socket, having the head B on its outer end provided with the transverse dovetailed groove 0. The outer edge of the socket on its upper side is provided with a notch, D, through which passes the cord E, while the knot on the end of the cord rests in the cylindrical socket. The said head is provided on opposite sides with the aper tures F and G, and a pin, II, is passed through the aperture F and driven into the sash to hold the socket in place. The groove in the outer side of the head is tapered, and a tapered slide or plate, K, having dovetailed edges, fits in the said groove. This slide or plate covers the outer end of the socket, and is secured in place by the pin N, which passes through an aperture therein, and also through the aper- Serial No. 268,571. (No model.)
The slide is also provided in its outer side with the notch L, to enable it to be readily removed from the groove.
The improved cord-fastener is adapted, as will be evident, to be applied to the edge of a sash by simply boring an auger-hole therein to receive the cylindrical socket and forming a shallow recess to receive the head.
The improved fastener possesses an advair tagc in the fact that, although the cord is pro tected from contact with the easement, it may be readily removed from the sash to release the latter without detaching the socket.
Sockets for the reception of knots on the ends of sash-cords have, I am aware, been heretofore employed; but it will be observed that my improved fastener remains in the sash when the latter is removed from the easement, it being only necessary (in order to remove the cord from the sash) to remove the slide in the outer end of the socket. This slide is so constructed as to remain firmly in position without rattling, and it effectually protects the knot from injury by contact with the side of the easement.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. In a sasheord holder, the socket having a notch in its upper side and the slide or plate fitting over the outer end of the socket, substantially as specified.
2. In a sash cord holder, the socket provided with a notch, D, and having a head on its outer end provided with a dovetailed groove, and the dovetailed slide or plate fitting JOSEPH L. BOIIANNAN.
