My invention relates to trusses, and has for its object to provide an arrangement of belts and pads which give entire freedom of movement to the wearer without any danger of displacing the pads.

Ihe invention consists of certain arrangements and constructions of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved truss. Fig. 2 is a full-sized section of one ofthe pads. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the springs.

The pads are mounted upon a plate, A,

\ Vpreferably of stout leather, and provided at each end with a buckle or a hook for the attachment of a belt, B, of elastic material. Near each end of the plate are three slots, a. These two pads are each provided with a base-plate, C, of metal, which has a lug, c, near its top and another near its bottom. When the plate is made of sheet metal, the lugs may be formed by taking a fold in the sheet, as illustrated in Fig. 2. These lugs are passed through the slots a in the plate A, and a spring pin or staple, C', is then inserted into suitable holes in the lugs c, thereby securely attaching the pads to the plate, but enabling them to be readily removed when desired.

Clamped between the base-plate C and another metallic plate, Cl, is a leather or cloth cover, D, which is suitably padded with hair to form a cushion, d, and is held distended by means of springs E. These springs are M- shaped, as shown in Fig. 3, having at each anglea coil, e. Several of these springs are arranged side by side in each pad, their iixed ends being secured alternately to the upper and lower parts of the plate C2, so that their free ends bear evenly against the under side` of the cushion d. This makes an easy yielding pad which responds quickly to any change in pressure due to themovements of the individual.

Attached to the bottom of the base-plate G is a short strap, F, which is passed through one ofthe slots a in the plate A, and unites with a buckle, f, secured to the upper part of the base-plate C, thus forming a loop. A second belt, G, is slipped loosely through these loops, being provided with a suitable buckle or other means for adjusting it. This belt is of such a width` as to be received between the lugs c of the pads by which it is supported.
