There has been conventionally used a wrench whose lightening members are formed with a chain. According to this conventional wrench, the tightening members, i.e. the chain, have to be tightened strictly around the threaded body before removing or screwing operation of the threaded body starts. Otherwise, the tightening members slide or slip on the threaded body while removing or screwing the threaded body, but it actually is very difficult to tighten the tightening member strict enough to prevent sliding or slipping, resulting in a difficulty of application ofa large and favorable tightening force and a turning force to the threaded body.
There has been used another conventional wrench in which the both ends of the tightening members are connected pivotally, but not removably, to a lever of the wrench. According to this conventional wrench, however, it is troublesome to remove or screw a threaded body at a middle portion ofa long body such as a pipe, since the both ends of the tightening members are connected to the lever portion of the wrench. Moreover, in case that both ends of the long body are connected or fixed to the other body or bodies, an application of this conventional wrench is impossible.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved wrench which presents a large tightening force to a threaded body.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved wrench which is applicable to any size of threaded bodies.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved wrench which prevents the tightening members from sliding on the threaded body.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved wrench which is applicable to a threaded body screwed in a recess or a concave.
According to the present invention, there is provided a new and improved wrench comprising a tightening means which has plural curved members pivotally connected to each other to form a substantially circular configuration, a lever which is pivotally connected by a pivot means to one end of the connected curved members, a clamping member which is pivotally connected to the other end of said connected curved members, and means for removably engaging said clamping member to said lever, said engaging means having plural notches and a pin engaged with one of said notches in accordance with a size of a threaded body.
All of the aforementioned as well as additional features of the present invention will become more clearly apparent from the detailed description thereof, which is to be read with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. I is a perspective view ofa wrench according to a first embodiment of the present invention;
FIGS. 2:: and 2b are plane views of the wrench of the first embodiment, in which FIGS. 2a and 2b are adapted to threaded bodies having a larger diameter and a smaller diameter, respectively;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view ofa wrench according to a second embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 4 is a plane view of the wrench according to the second embodiment shown in FIG. 3, in which the wrench is adapted to remove a screw in a recess, and
FIG. 5 is a sectional view of line V-V in FIG. 4.
Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, three metal-made curved members 2I, 2-2, 2-3 are pivotally connected to each other to form a substantially circular tightening means 4, one end of which is pivotally connected to an end of a lever 6 by a pin 7, and the other end of which is pivotally connected to a clamping member 8 by a pin 9. The clamping member has three recesses or hooked notches Ila, 11b and 11c arranged substantially in parallel to each other along the lengthwise direction thereof. Each of the hooked notches 11 partially extends in the clamping member from the inner surface thereof toward the end opposite to the pin 9. There is also provided a pin 10 on the lever portion 6 which is engaged with one of the notches II. In operation of removing or screwing the threaded body 14, one of the notches 11a, llb, 111' is engaged with the pin 10 in accordance with size, i.e. diameter, of the threaded body 14.
The curved members 2, each of which is pivotally connected to each other by pins 3, have a number of a teeth or saws l on an inside-curved portions which contacts the threaded body 14. Preferably, the saws may be made of synthetic resins.
In this embodiment, the pin 7 is provided at the top portion of the lever 6, and the pin 10 is provided at a portion of the lever lower than the pin 7. In place of the configuration described above, pin 7 and the pin 10 may be contradictory located on the lever 6. In other words, the pin 10 may be provided at the top of the lever in place of the pin 7. In this case, however, the lever is rotated in the direction opposite to that of the wrench shown in FIG. 2.
When the size of the threaded body is rather larger, the notch Ila is engaged by the pin 10, while another notch lie is engaged when the size of the threaded body is smaller as shown in FIGS. 20 and 2b. After the notch is engaged by the pin 10, the lever 6 shown in FIGS. 20 and 2b is rotated in the counter-clockwise direction for removing the threaded body 14. On the other hand, when the threaded body be screwed, the wrench is turned front side back and then the lever 6 is operated to rotate in the clockwise direction. When the lever 6 is moved in the counterclockwise direction for removing the threaded body, the pins 7 and 9 are removed nearer to each other with a fulcrum of the pin 10 as the arrows shown in FIGS. 20 and 2b. Therefore, the counter-clockwise force added to the lever 6 is applied to the threaded body without a loss.
In the second embodiment of the wrench according to the present invention shown in FIGS. 3, 4, and 5, each of the curved members 2l, 2-2, 23 has an extended portion 12 and a tightening plate 13. The tightening plate 13 is connected with the extended portion 12 which is preferably formed thicker toward the tightening plate 13 so that connection between them 12 and 13 is reinforced. The tightening plates extend vertically in both directions beyond a horizontal plane on which the curved members 2 are located. Preferably, the curved members, the extended portions, and the tightening plates may be formed in an integral manner.
In FIGS. 4 and 5, a threaded body such as bolt which is positioned at a recess or a concave 15 as shown well in FIG. 5 is held by the tightening plates. This wrench is faborably applicable particularly to the threaded body positioned in the concave 15. The tightening plate 13 has a number of grooves or teeth 1 on the inner sur face thereof to prevent sliding. The purpose of forming such teeth is as same as that of the first embodiment.
Though the present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments thereof, many modifications and alterations may be made. For example, each of the tightening plates 13 may have a curved surface so that larger area of the plates 13 may be contacted with the threaded body, whereby a re moving or screwing operation can be done more effec tively. Moreover, the notches 11a, 11b, He may be provided along the lengthwise direction of the lever 6 while the pin 10 may be provided on the clamping member 8.
