TOBACCO-PIPE.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,084, dated August 21, 1888.

Be it known that I, Hans J. SoRENsEN, of Chicago, in the State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in To bacco-Pipes, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates toimprovements in tobacco-pipes which have a drip cup below the tobacco-chamber; and the object is to make the parts separate and adapt them to be held together by the stem in such manner that they can be readily taken apart for cleaning. A further object in having the parts made separately is to cheapen the cost of manufacture.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.
Figurel is a vertical central section through the bowl and stem of the pipe. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the linex a: of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line of the axis of the stem.
A designates the bowl,which in this instance is turned out of wood, the opening a being extended clear through the piece from which the bowl is made, and being preferably made slightly flaring or increasing in diameter in both directions from the point a, where the bottom of the tobacco-chamber is located.
B is the drip-cup,which is formed with a recess, b, serving as a cup for the drip, located below the stem. The upper portion of this part is tenoned to fit the bottom part of the opening through the bowl, and the lower portion is shaped in such manner as to form a neat joint with the lower extremity of the bowl and an ornamental finish for the bottom of the pipe.

rested on the top of the tenoned part of the drip-cup,' and is made to fit the opening through part A at its narrowest point closely enough so as not to fall or be knocked out when the pipe is being emptied, and it is provided with a hole or holes, 0, communicating with the tobacco-chamber and the drip-cup. The bowl has a hole, a", through one side for the stem D, and the tenoned part of the dripcup a corresponding hole through both sides, so that when the tenon is inserted the stem passing through said holes will secure said parts together. The stem has a hole, 0', through one side to its hollow passage for the smoke to pass in. Then the stem is withdrawn, the bowl, drip-cup, and bottom 0 may be readily separated for cleaning, and it is obvious that with special toolsas molds or turning implements-the several parts can be separately made at small cost.
