Objects of the invention are to provide a jewelry box of simple structure, which is inexpensive in manufacture and is easy, simple, convenient and comfortable to use to provide access to any of a great number of articles of jewelry with rapidity and convenience.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing. wherein:
FIG. I is a schematic diagram of an embodiment of the jewelry box of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of part of the embodiment of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a view, partly cut away and partly in section, on an enlarged scale, of part of the embodiment of FIG. I; and
FIG. 4 is a top view of part of the embodiment of FIG. 1.
In the FIGS., the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The jewelry box of the invention comprises a substantially tubular housing 1 (FIGS. 1 and 2) having a closed top 2 and a closed bottom 3 (FIG. 1) and adapted to stand on the bottom with its axis 4 (FIG. 1) substantially vertical. The housing 1 has an opening 5 formed through the side thereof and a door 6 movably mounted in the opening to provide access to the interior (FIG. I).
A coaxially extending shaft 6 (FIGS. 1 to 4) is rotat ably mounted in the top 2 and the bottom 3 of the housing 1. the shaft 6 is removably mounted in the top and bottom 2 and 3 of the housing 1.
A plurality of substantially rectangular platelike members 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 (FIG. 4) are provided. Each of the members 7 to 12 has a plurality of hooks formed thereon for removably supporting jewelry. Thus, as shown in FIG. 1, the member 8 has hooks I3, l4, l5 and I6 thereon for removably supporting jewelry and the member 12 has hooks 17 and 18 thereon for removably supporting jewelry.
A fastening device of suitable type is utilized to removably affix the plate-like members 7 to 12 to the shaft 6 in the housing I for rotation therewith in a manner whereby the members extend radially from the shaft, as shown in FIG. 4. Thus, in the illustration of FIG. 3, the shaft 12 has an L-shaped hook 19 which is removably accommodated in an L-shaped recess 20 formed in the shaft 6. The other members 7 to 11 have similar hooks and the shaft is provided with additional similar recesses such as, for example. 21. In the illustration of FIG. 4, the members 7 to 12 may either be fastened to the shaft 6 in the manner illustrated in FIG. 3, or may be removably accommodated in linearly extending recesses parallel to the axis 4.
While the invention has been described by means of a specific example and in a specific embodiment, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
I. A jewelry box, comprising a substantially tubular housing having a substantially cylindrical wall, a closed top and a closed bottom and adapted to stand on the bottom with its axis substantially vertical;
a coaxially extending shaft in the housing rotatably mounted in the top and the bottom of the housing;
a plurality of substantially rectangular plate-like members each having a plurality of hooks thereon for removably supporting jewelry; and
fastening means for removably affixing the plate-like members to the shaft in the housing for rotation therewith in a manner whereby the members extend radially from the shaft, said fastening means comprising a plurality of spaced recesses formed in the shaft and hooks extending from the plate-like members and removably accommodated in the recesses.
2. A jewelry box as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing has an opening formed through the substantially cylindrical wall thereof and a door movably mounted in the opening to provide access to the intenor.
3. A jewelry box as claimed in claim I, wherein the shaft is removably mounted in the top and bottom of the housing.
