EDWARD DE PLANQUE, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
PLAQUE OR PANEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 386,970, dated July 31,1888.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD DE PLANQUE, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Plaque or Panel, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to plaques or panels for which United States Letters Patent No. 319,680 were granted to me June 9, 1885.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved plaque or panel which is stronger in construction and has a better finish.
The invention consists of a plaque or panel formed of two layers of canvas or duck united by a mixture of glue, whiting, and finely-pulverized wood and of a sheet of paper secured to the front or face of the plaque, being provided with a covering of whiting and glue, on which covering the painting or drawing is produced.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a face view of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of part of the same.
Two sheets, A, of canvas, duck, or like fabric, are united by a layer, B, of a mixture of glue,'whiting, and pulverized wood spread between the sheets. To one of the sheets A is secured a sheet of paper, 0, by means of glue, D, or other suitable material. The plaqueor panel thus formed is pressed into or otherwlse given the desired shape, and is then dried. A layer, E, of whiting and glue is spread on the face of the paper 0, and a like but thinner layer; F, is spread on the back of the sheet A, as is plainly shown in Fig. 2. A painting or drawing is produced on the face of the layer E.
The plaque or panel may have any desired shape, size, or color, and may be flat or concave. The mixture of glue, whiting, and wood, binds the sheets A together, and the sheet of paper 0, in connection with the sheets A and the layer B, stiffens the plaque or panel.
Having thus fully described myinvention,1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A plaque or panel formed of two sheets of canvas or duck united by a mixture of glue, whiting, and pulverized wood, and a sheet of paper fastened to one of the sheets of canvas or duck, the sheet of paper being provided with a coating of whiting and glue, substantially as shown and described.
