Abstract

An electrical bottle opener which removes the cap from a bottle inserted into the device. The cap lifting action is accomplished by a cam-operated lever powered by an electric motor. The lever fits about the cap of a bottle, when the device grips the neck of an inserted bottle.

3 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures ELECTRICAL BOTTLE OPENER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My invention relates to an electric bottle cap opener which can be either wall or table mounted. The electric bottle opener of my invention removes a bottle cap from a glass bottle by means of a cam-operated lever driven by an electric motor.
An advantage of my invention is that it provides a simple mechanism for the removal of a cap from a glass bottle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of the invention;
FIG. 2 illustrates a fragmentary side sectional view of the invention;
FIG. 3 illustrates a fragmentary front sectional view of the invention; and
FIG. 4 illustrates a fragmentary perspective view of the mechanism of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIGS. 1-4 show the electric bottle opener which removes a bottle cap 25 from an attached glass bottle 17.
The electric bottle opener 10 is enclosed in a housing 11 fitted with a horizontal overhang extension section 12 on the front face 13 of the housing 11.
A recess 14 is mounted in the overhang section 12 of the housing which is open at its front side and bottom so as to permit sliding the neck 17 of a capped bottle into recess 14, with the bottle neck hanging between fixed supports 16, and the bottle cap 25 resting on the flanged lips 29 of lifter bar 24.
Pushing the bottle against spring stop 38 actuates a switch 18 to energize the motor 19. Motor 19 rotates worm gear 20 engaged to gear 21. Gear 21 is attached to shaft 22 and cam 23, with rotation of cam 23 applying pressure against lifter bar 24. Lifter bar 24 is pivoted about side pins 39 and when rotated by cam 23, raises the bottle cap 25 against a stationary cam 26 that fits through a slot 36 in the lifter bar. The bending action against the top of cap 25 releases the cap 25 from the bottle neck [7. Compression springs 30 return lifter bar 24 to the starting position after the cap 25 is removed, and the cap 25 may slide freely off the tapered ends 29A of ledges 29 when the next bottle 17 is inserted into recess 14.
Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A bottle opener device powered by an electric motor which consists of a pivoted bar rotated by a drive powered by the electric motor so as to deform the rim and top of a bottle cap attached to a bottle and to free the cap from the bottle,
said lifter bar being fitted with flanges which fit about the neck of a bottle and under the attached cap rim, with said lifter bar slotted along its mid axis, with a stationary cam fitted loosely in the slot of the lifter bar which engages and deforms the top of a bottle cap lifted by the flanges of the lifter bar.
2. The combination as recited in claim 1 in which the motor of the device is controlled by a limit switch which is actuated by a bottle inserted into the device.
3. The combination as recited by claim 1 in which the lifter bar is pivoted about a fixed point, with a cam engaged to the motor drive riding against the lifter bar, said cam causing the operating end of the lifter bar to pivot away from an attached bottle when the motor drive is energized.

Claims (3)

1. A bottle opener device powered by an electric motor which consists of a pivoted bar rotated by a drive powered by the electric motor so as to deform the rim and top of a bottle cap attached to a bottle and to free the cap from the bottle, SAID LIFTER BAR BEING FITTED WITH FLANGES WHICH FIT ABOUT THE NECK OF A BOTTLE AND UNDER THE ATTACHED CAP RIM, WITH SAID LIFTER BAR SLOTTED ALONG ITS MID AXIS, WITH A STATIONARY CAM FITTED LOOSELY IN THE SLOT OF THE LIFTER BAR WHICH ENGAGES AND DEFORMS THE TOP OF A BOTTLE CAP LIFTED BY THE FLANGES OF THE LIFTER BAR.
