TAG.
Patented June Z6., 1888.
INVENTOR WITNESSES vATTOBJVEY N Patins, Pham-ummm", wminmmnc,
t UNITED STATES PATENT l OFFICE.
THEODORE J'. YUND, OF AMSTERDAM, N ENV YORK, ASSIGNOR OF THREE FOURTHS TO THOMAS F. KENNEDY, THOMAS F. KYNE, AND CHARLES C. YUND, ALL OF SAME PLACE.
TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 385,083, dated June 26, 1888.
Application filed March Q9, 1888. Serial No. 268,807. (Ne model.)
' city of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State Aof New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Tags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a tag that is easily and rapidly adjusted and removed without injury to gar ments that are provided with buttons, such as ready-made clothing, knitted underwear, dre. Tags heretofore in use are secured to the garments with rivets, staples, stitching, pins, barbed points, 85e., which require a Vlarge amount of time to adjust, and when these tags are removed they leave a mark or disguration upon the garment, which is more apparent upon fine-finished knit underwear.
The peculiar, specific, and novel construction of my improved tag allows it to be securely and rapidly attached to the garments, and is susceptible of being as rapidly removed .Without any injury or distiguration to the garments. y
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a general plan, Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View upon the broken line fr x in Fig. l, and Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are modifications, of in y iir -vention.
In manufacturing my improved tag I cut the blanks A from suitable paper or other material having sufficient strength and stiffness, of the general form shown in Fig. l, With punches, or by any of the Well-known mechanical devices suitable for that purpose. In the shank (so speaking) of the blanks 'A I make the hole O, having connected therewith the diverging forked-like aperture D, all substantially as shown in the several figures of the drawings. This hole C and diverging aperture D, Icutin the blanksA with a punch or any of the wellknown devices for such purposes; or, if deemed expedient, the whole and complete tag, as shown in Fig. l, may be formed by punching at one operation with a special machine for that purpose.
Upon the face of the body o t' the tag I print any desired words or characters to indicate the character and kind of goods to which the tag is affixed.
In using or attaching my improved tags to` goods the operator simply inserts the extreme points ofthe diverging pieces B B under the button and astride of the thread E, which secures the button to the fabric, F, as shown in Fig. lby the broken line H', and pushes it forward, thereby gradually compressing the thread E slightly together until it passes into the hole C, when the thread assumes its normal form, thereby firmly securing the tag in place. A
To remove the tag, the operator simply draws upon the tag in the inverse direction from which the tag was attached with sufficient force to release the thread E from the hole C, thereby removing the tag and leaving the garment in a perfect condition and without any disfiguration. i
Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the drawings exhibit tags containing my invention whose bodies are of various forms to illustrate the nioditications to which my invention is susceptible. However, I prefer the form substantially as shown in Fig. l.
Having described myinvention, whatIclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved tag herein described, consisting of a blank ot' paper or other suitable material having the hole or perforation O opening into the diverging apertureD, all substantially as set forth.
' In witness whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THEO. J. `I'UND.
Witnesses:
