SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,790, dated June 19, 1888.

1 bined cane, umbrella, and camp'stool, which can be readily changed so as to be used as a cane, umbrella, and campstool, it being specially adapted for tourists purposes; and the invention consists of a combined cane, umbrella, and camp-stool, which comprises a tubular body made of two sections, with a ferrule and clamp-screw at the lower end, said tubular body serving as a receptacle for the umbrella and other accessories by which the sections of the body can be changed into a camp-stool. The ferrule and clamp'screw of the tubular body serve to hold the stick of the umbrella whenever the same is folded up within the body or open for use, as will appear more fully hereinaftcr,and finally be pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of my combined cane, umbrella, and camp stool, showing the same arranged as a cane. Fig. 2 is also a vertical central section showing the device in use as an umbrella. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing it arranged as a campstool; and Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the seat, partly in section, on linen: m, Fig. 3. Fig. Sisasectional view on the line y y, Fig. 3; and Fig. 6 illustrates detail views of the folding brace, which forms, in connection with the sections of the tubular body, the supports of the campstool.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of my improved cane, umbrella, and campstool, which is made in tubular shape, of rubber, vulcanite fiber, sheet metal,or other suitable material. It is made of two sections, a a, which are screwed together so as to form a reliable screw 'oint, b, one section, a, being pro-v vided with a suitable handle, d, while the other sectiorna, isprovided with a tubular ferrule, e, through which the end of the stick D of the umbrella D,that is stored away in the tubular body A,projects, and is retained'in position by the set-screw c of the ferrule e.

In the tubular body A are further stored away a folding brace, O, that is shown in detail in Fig. 6, and a flexible seat, E, of canvas or other suitable fabric, which is provided with pocketsf, of triangular shape at the corners, for receiving the ends of the brace G and the tubular sections a a,rcspectively,wheu the device is to be used as a camp-stool. When in the tubular body, the said seat E is wrapped around the folded brace G, as shown in Fig. 1, in which position the device can be used as a cane.

When the device is to be used as an umbrella, the tubular sections a a are unscrewed, the umbrella removed, opened, and the stick D inserted from the outside into the ferrule e,

and then tightly secured by the set'screw e, as

shown in Fig. 2, in which position it forms a combined cane and umbrella. Vhen it is in tended to be used as a camp-stool, a pivot-pin,

hen it is desired to use the device onlyas a cane, or as a cane and umbrella, the campstool accessories may be left at home or dispensed with, in which case two styles can be made, one simply as a combination of cane and umbrella without the camp-stool, seat, and brace, while the other is furnished with these accessories.

I am aware that combination canes and camp-stools have been made heretofore. I am also aware that -the combination of canes and umbrellas has been made in different ways, and I do not claim, broadly, the combination of these parts, but desire to confine myself It forms in this position mainly to the specific combination of the tubnlar cane with the umbrella secured to the ferrule of the cane, and the combination of the cane sections, the extra braceconnection ofthe seat, and connecting pivot and link.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 1. The combination of tubular cane-sections having diametrical holes, an extra brace, a flexible seat having pockets for receiving the upper ends of the cane-sections and brace, a

pin passing through the holes of the sections,

and a fastening-ring connecting the sections and brace, substantially as set forth.
