Be it known that I, M. OTTO SMITH, of Creighton, in the county of Cass and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Wall-Paper Exhibitor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.

The object of the invention is to furnish a wall-paper exhibitor which can be arranged in connection with the shelvingcornice in a manner that the paper may be unwound from the sample-rolls to exhibit the paper as it will appear on the wall, and whereby such sample paper may be again readily wound upon the rolls, and thus allow free access to the goodsA on the shelves when the paper is not being exhibited. t

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specicat-ion, in which similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view illustrating a series of my improved exhibitors fitted to a cornice. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of theimproved pulley or wheel and a portion of the paperbarrying rod. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the paper, rod, and penetrating-pins of the pulley or wheel; and Fig.'4 is an enlarged view of a portion of the bracket, paper-roll, and rod.

The suspension-brackets A, which I prefer to employ, may be secured in any suitable manner to the cornice B, and are each formed at the bottom with upturned edges a, each adapted to support one end of each of two adjacent papercarrying rods, B, the sidewise movement of the rods being limited by the inbent portions a', which are preferably at or aboutthe center ofthe bottom upturned edges a.

On each rod B is fitted a grooved wheel or pulley, O,which may be fixed thereto or placed loosely thereon, as may be desired. On the inner face of each pulley three or more pins, o, are formed or secured, the said pins being pointed for penetrating the end of the roll of paper D, to cause the latter to be revolved to roll or unroll the paper when the pulley B is revolved, as hereinafter explained.

In the groove of each pulley B is secured one end of a string, E, the free end of the string hanging down within reach from the floor of the store or room, the arrangement being such that by pulling on the string or cord the paper l will loe wound upon the rod. To draw down the paper it is only necessary to catch hold of l q and pull on the free or outer end thereof when the shelving-cornice B is` not too high, and In most country stores said cornice is not out of the reach of a person of ordinary height.` If

desired, a string or cord, as F, may be attached to the bottom or outer end of the paper on the roll, for use where the sampleroll itself is out` of reach. If preferred, a spring may be `ern-` ployed to wind up the paper after the wellknown manner of spring curtain-fixtures, and will be found a convenient arrangement.

When the wheel or pulleyisloose on the rod, the paper and pulley revolve on the rod; but when the pulley is fixedly secured to the rod the whole will revolve in the brackets or hangers.

By the above-described exhibitor the saml ple-rolls occupy only space not otherwise occupied, and allow of the paperbeing exhibited y i with little loss of time and to the best advantage.

Although I have described a preferred construction of brackets or hangers, it is evident any other suitable hangers or supports may be used without great disadvantage.

Having thus described my invention, `what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with the shelving having a forwardly-projecting cornice at its top, of

the several horizontally-aligned brackets A, depending from the cornice, and each having upturned edges a, notched between their ends and inbent, as at a', and a series of rods resting in said upturned portions at opposite sides of portions a', and each having a pulley provided with an operating-cord and'long pins c on its inner face, substantially as set forth.
