SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,484, dated June 12, 1888.

Be it known that I,W1LLIAM I. WEINBERG,

'a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Scarfs and Bows, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in neckbands for scarfs, bows, and, the like; and it consists in a scarf or bow having a neckband constructed and provided with attachments, as fully pointed out in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a bow provided with my improved neckband. Fig. 2 is a section in the plane 00 as, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a face view of a portion of the neckband. Fig. 4 is a face view of the slide. Fig. 5 shows detail views of the hook and eye. Fig. 6 represents a scarf provided with my improved neckband.

In the drawings, referring at present to Figs. 1 to 5, the letter A designates a bow of the usual construction, and B is the neckband attached to the bow in the usual manner. One end, I), of the neckband is turned back upon itself to form a bight, 0, Figs. 1 and 2, and said end is secured to one of the external bars of a slide, 0. Previous to securing said end I) to the slide it is passed through the loops of the said slide. By the use of the slide 0 the neckband can be adjusted to suit the neck of the wearer and then held as adjusted. In the bight 0 of the neckband is placed loosely an eye, D, which can be shifted in the bight to suit changes in the length of the same, caused by changing the position of the slide 0. This eye D is adapted to be engaged by a hook, E, secured to the opposite end, d, of the neckband. In the example shown in the drawings the hook E is formed of a wire, which is bent to form attaching-bars e e and the U-shaped hook, the two extending nearly parallel to each other. The hook is secured to the end of theneckband on theinterior side of the latter, either by sewing it on, as shown, or by other means, and consequently is completely covered by the same, and no portion thereof appears externally. By the use of this hook and eye the opposite ends of the neckband are united after the band has been properly adjusted to the neck, and said meeting ends are brought into close contact with each other, thereby avoiding the space usually left in the use of the ordinary fastening devices, such as buckles and the like. The slide 0 in the example shown in the drawings, Fig. 4, is made of one piece of wire, which is bent, as shown, to form the central and external bars of the slides ordinarily used.

The neckband illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 can be affixed equally as well to a scarf, A, as shown in Fig. 6, or other neck-wear.

The object of my invention is to provide a neckband which can be readily and conveniently adjusted to the neck, and one in which but little metal projects external to the band.

Heretofore a scarf has been made in which the ends are brought togetherin front and one end provided with a hook fastened in a loop of the band to engage with one side of askeleton shield secured to the back of the scarf. My invention differs from this in the location of the hook at the back to engage with the end of the band, where the parts are better concealed, and in the peculiar construction and attachment of the parts, the book being made of wire and fastened upon the band, while the slide-loop is wholly concealed from view by the manner of combining it with the band.

\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

As a new article of manufacture, a scarf or bow having one end, I), of the band B turned over outwardly upon itself to form a bight, c, a slide, 0, to one of the bars of which the end of the band is attached, the body of said band being passed through said slide and under the said bar, a loop, 1), running loosely in the bight o, and ahook, E, composed of wire form ing the parallel bars 6 e and U-shaped engaging-hook, said bars 6 6 being laid upon the band and fastened thereto at the end opposite that to which the loop D is attached, substantially as described.
