tion on the body of the party using it; and it NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. CAMPBELL, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
HEAD- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed October 28, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WORTH GAME" BELL, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, commercial traveler, have invented a certain new and Improved Head-Rest, of which the following is a specification.
The objectof the invention is to design suitable means for supporting a head-rest in posiconsists, essentially, in providing shoulder, arm, and body straps in connection with the head-rest, substantially in the manner hereinafter explained.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved head-rest in use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail of the head-rest and straps for holding the headrest in position.
A is the headrest, made any suitable shape. B is an upright attached to the head-rest, and shaped to follow the contour of the neck and back of the wearer.
C are shoulder-straps, one end of each strap being connected to the head-rest A and the other end to the upright B. Each of these straps is provided with a suitable buckle, D, by which the length of the said straps may be adjusted for the purpose of fitting the party about to use the head-rest.
E are arm-straps connected to the upper portion of the upright B or to the head-rest, or to both, as the manufacturer may desire.
REST.
Patent No. 382,949, dated May 15, 1888.
Serial No. 253,655. (No model.)
Loops F are formed on the ends of these straps, through which the arms of the wearer may be inserted in the manner indicated in Fig. 1.
G is a body strap or belt attached to the up right B and buckled around the body of the wearer, as indicated.
Should it be desired to secure the head-rest to or around the back of a seat, asuitable strap, H, may be connected to the upright in the manner indicated.
The head-rest may be covered with plush or other suitable material, and the straps may be made of cotton, leather, or any other material. I do not wish to confine myself to the material or to any particular dimensions.
0 What I claim as my invention is- The head-rest described, consisting of the head-rest A, the upright B, attached thereto, the shoulder-straps 0, attached to the headrest and passed behind said upright, the armstraps E, secured to the upper part of the upright and formed at their free ends with loops, the body-strap G, attached to the upright, and
, the securing-strap H, attached to said upright,
all substantially as and for the purpose specifled.
Toronto, October 15, 1887.
