UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM BLOOMBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 382,793, dated May 15, 1888. v
' Application filed Oetoberfw, 1887. Serial No. 253.680. (No model.)
To It whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM BLOOMBERG, of the city, county,.and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clasp, of
which the following is a full, clear, and eXactf description.
My invention relates to an improvement in clasps for holding Suspender-ends without stitching and for uniting them to thesuspenderbuckle.
The invention consists of the peculiar form of the blank employed in constructing the main jaw of the clasp, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of thisspecification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view -of my new and improved clasp. Fig. 2 shows the blank for forming one jaw of the clasp, and Fig. 3 illustrates the use of the clasp.
The improved clasp is composed of the two jaws A and B and the clasp O, for holding the suspender-ends D D. The jaw B is formed with a hook, b, to engage with a ring, E, and the same jaw is pivoted to the side pieces a a in a common manner. The jawA is,by preference, of the cast-off type, and is formed 0*"0f a blank of the shape shown in Fig.2. This blank is stamped from sheet metal and is shaped to form the main central piece, 0, the two short side pieces d d, notched at d d, and the fan-shaped piece f, having diagonal side pieces f. The outer edges of the pieces ff are. notched to form teeth 1". The diagonal side pieces f are bent along the dotted lines, Fig. 2, to the position shown in. Fig. 1, and the teeth f are bent inward, as shown in said figure.
In use the Suspender-ends D' are placed in the clasp O and the side pieces f bent down and struck, which causes the'teeth f to penetrate the ends'and hold them very firmly. In this manner I avoid the heart shaped leather usually stitched to the upper ends of the suspender-ends, and also avoid the use of the usual ring, the hook I) serving to attach the Suspender-ends directly to the buckle-ring.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
v The blank for forming the jawA of a clasp formed with the main center piece, a, side pieces d, fan-shaped piece f, side pieces f, and teeth f substantially as described.
