Abstract
This invention concerns a hamper for twisted wire or equivalent garment hangers. The hamper comprises two opposed side walls separated by a base portion running the length of the side walls. A slot about midway of the ends of the two walls and at the bottom thereof extends across the base portion and part way up each of the walls. When the hamper is full of hangers, a wire can be inserted through the slot, looped around the hangers and tied to form the hangers into a secure bundle. A hook extends from the top edge of each wall so that the hamper can be hung from a suitable support. The present invention relates to a device for handling clothes hangers. More particularly, it is concerned with an improved hamper in which unused clothes hangers-twisted wire, plastic or wooden-can be compactly arranged and prevented from becoming tangled with one another and with garments hung on the same rod in a closet.

[5 7 ABSTRACT This invention concerns a hamper for twisted wire or equivalent garment hangers.
The present invention relates to a device for handling clothes'hangers. More particularly, it is concerned 5 Claims, 1 Drawing; Figure HAMPER FOR GARMENT HANGERS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Empty hangers extending from a rod in a clothes closet seem to collect at a relatively rapid rate. They not only increase in number but tend to be strewn from one end of the clothes rod to the other, with hung garments interspersed between groups of hangers. Oftentimes such closets are not too well lighted, and when either removing a wrap therefrom or when attempting to place one on a hanger the latter frequently is easily knocked off the clothes rod. This can occur with annoying frequency.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION AND DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING tially the length of the walls. The latter in outline generally follow the configuration of the hanger, including hooks 10 and 12 which extend upwardly from, and may be integral with, side walls 6 and 4, respectively. If desired, walls 4 and 6 may be braced by bar 14 located to the rear of hooks l and 12 to lend rigidity to the structure. Approximately midway of the ends and at the base of the walls is a slot 16 extending across the width of bottom 8. Secured to wall 6 by any convenient means is a receptacle 18 or strands of wire, string or the like, which can be used to tie the hangers together when the hamper is full.
In practice, hamper 2 is placed on a closet rod 20,
preferably at one end away from garments hanging thereon. Unused twisted wire hanger 22 is placed within hamper 2 and hung on the portion of rod 20 between hooks 10 and 12. When the hamper is full a wire is taken from the receptacle 18, inserted through slot 16 above the bottom portion of the empty hangers, looped around the opposite side and the two ends of the wire brought together underneath the hanger and twisted or tied. If desired, a second wire or string may be tied around the hanger hooks. The resulting compact bundle of hangers is then removed from the hamper and disposed of or placed to one side in the closet where they will not interfere with the garments in, or their removal from, the closet.
I claim:
1. A hamper for wire or similar garment hangers comprising:
a pair of opposed side portions;
a base running substantially the length of said side portions and affixed to the bottom edge of each of said side portions to define an open-ended structure; and
separate means integral with each of said side portions for suspending said hamper from a suitable support.
2. The hamper described in claim 1 wherein a slot intermediate the ends of said base runs the full width thereof and extends a partial distance upward from the bottom edges of said side portions.
3. The hamper described in claim I wherein a brace member extends across from one side portion to the other and is affixed to the back upper edges of said side portions. 7
4. The hamper described in claim 2 wherein a receptacle is affixed to the outer side of one of said side portions.
5. The hamper described in claim 3 wherein a receptacle is affixed to the outer side of one of said side portions.
