T0 all wh0m 2'If may c0nce1m Be it known that I, JOHN W. RIGGS, 0f Fort Plain, Montgomery county, and State of New York, have invented a new and use ful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves, which is described as follows, reference being had t0 the annexed drawings 0f the same, making part of this specification.

The fi1e chamber Aoven Band funnel C, are made in the usual manner.
The improvement consists, in combining with the aforesaid stove, an additional, und smaller fire chamber D, which is so 2x1- ranged, as that, while it answers all the pur poses 0f cooking, baking, &c., it is operated without sensibly heating the mein stove. The heatbeing entirely excluded from the interior ofthe mein stove, by the oven plate T, and damper M, ;md passing under, and up, tl1e back side cf the oven, and fire box, as shown in the drawing, (E E E.) thus uniting in the szune stove, 2u1c1 occupying the same space 0f ordinary stoves, and atthe sarne cost, a complete summer, and Winter stove, either operating we1l separate and distinct, fron1 the other, er both ab the same timewhile this additional fire chamber D, accomplishes, in the most perfect manner, another imp0rtant and intended eifect, viz, that- 0f heating the]oottom of ehe oven B, equally with the top, which cannot be effected by any stove having the fi1e all at t11e t0p 015 the oven,"as is, anc1 must be the case, with all fuel saving stoves. The upper, or Winter fire cha;mber, comsists of two side plates P, resting in grooves on the upper p1ate, 0f the oven, (instead cf sinking as in others,) and a third, or bottom plate L, which is movable, and if desired in sun1mer, may be raisecl sonne four inches, to grooves marked S S.
In the front plate, near its upper edge is a slicle K opening a draft 011 either side, which serves f0r the escape 0f stezun, and
srnoke when cooking in front, and also f01 the emission of 1ight, in the evening, and so equalize the fire above. The damper M, slides in grooves formed in the back plate, near its upper edge, where the smid plate is perforated, which perforations give exit t0 the firce from the upper fire place. By this damper M, the fire may be driven around the 0ven, (if desired for any purpo-se,) by dmwing at the same time the damper resti11g 011 ehe projecting edge T, 0f the upper plate of the oven, which projecting edge, is also perfomted, for the pu1pose last mentioned, on1y. The pro-jection, being designed eifectually t0 exclude the heatbelovv, from passing into, and heating the body 0f the stove above.
