COMBINED STEP-LADDER A ND IRONI'NG-BOARD.
SPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'380,159, dated March 27, 1888.
Application filed March 14, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that we, WEALTHY J. ALLEN and BELLE WEST, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Arkansas City and Winfield, in the county of Cowley and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Step-Ladder and Ironing-Board, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the acro companying drawings, forming part thereof,
in which Figure l is a perspective view of our combined step-ladder and ironing-board when in use as a step-ladder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same-when in use as an ironing-board, the bosom andsleeve. board being thrown back out of the way; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the ironing-boardand bosom and sleeve board.
Theinvention relates to a combined step ladder and ironingboard; and it consists in they construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
A represents the ironing-board, having a cross piece or cleat, A, on its under side, near one end, to which the rear end of the longitudinally-extending clamp A is secured, a screw, a, passing through the clamp and having a nut, a, for adjusting the clamp.
To the under side of the opposite end of the ironing board, at e, is hinged the ladder E.
B is a bosom and sleeve board, hinged to the upper side of the ironing-board at the same end as the ladder. The hinges b project be- 3 5 yond the end of the ironing-board, so that the bosom and sleeve board may be thrown over upon the ironing-board or step-ladder, as may be desired. The board B'hasits inner part widened to form the bosom-board O, and its Serial No.280,915. (No modeh) outer end is narrowed to form the sleeve-board 0 D, as shown best in Fig. 3. s When it is desired to usethe device as a step-ladder, the bosom and sleeve board Bis folded over upon the ironing board, and the clamp end of' the ironing-board is allowed to rest on the floor or ground, as shown in Fig. 1. The clamp end of the board is raised to the position shown in Fig. 2 when the device is to be used as an ironing-board, and the clamp is brought into engagement with anycoriven- U ient projection, such as the edge of a table, G, window-sill, or shelf.
If the sleeve and bosom board B is not to be. used, it is folded over upon the step-ladder, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An ironing-board having a clamp at one end, a step ladder hinged to its opposite end, and a bosom-board hinged to the ironing board above the ladder, to be folded over-upon the ladder or ironing-board, substantially as set forth.
2. The ironing-board A, having a cross- WEALTHY J. ALLEN. BELLE WEST. Witnesses:
