Abstract
An adjustable and portable playground slide adapted for placement on, for example, a conventional staircase. The slide is composed of detachable section channels, with telescoping legs for determining the angle of incline, which are uniquely braced together by means of extensible members to insure the safety of the user without impairing the detachability of the sections which serve to facilitate assembly and portage.
Description
PLAYGROUND sums The invention relates to recreational equipment and,-
in particular, to playground slides adapted to be supported on staircases.
According to the invention, the instant slide is composed of detachable channeled sections, each section being supported on an adjustable leg support whereby the angle of descent is relatively independent of the steepness of the staircase on which the slide is mounted. The sections have elongated side sockets to which the adjustable supports are secured, the sockets being adapted to receive plugs extending from one end of each socket for ease of assembly. Specially designed braces are provided for detachably connecting the supports which, together with a bottom stop pad at the bottom of the slide, assure the safety of the user.
One onject of the invention is to provide an improved portable and adjustable playground slide.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be appreciated on reading the following description of one embodiment thereof which is taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a side elevation of the slide;
FIG. 2 is a perspective showing in particular the detachable channel sections of the slide and their adjustable leg supports; and
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the adjustable brace for the leg supports.
Referring to the drawings channeled slide sections are provided with hollow side sockets 12 having plugs 14 extending from one end of each socket for insertion into adjoining sockets on assembly of the slide.
Hingedly secured to the underside of each socket substantially intermediate the ends is a telescoping leg support 16 having set screws 18 for predctermining the height of the leg and hence the angle of desired incline of the slide relative to the staircase 20 on which it is mounted.
As shown in FIG. 3 there is provided a uniquely designed brace 22 for securing the leg supports on the stairs. The braces also have telescoping sections being longitudinally adjustable and secured by set screw 24.
Inserted in each end of the brace 22 is a clamp 26 having two leg embracing members which are tightened together on the leg support by means of set screw 28.
Attached by channel section 29 to the end of the bot tom channel section 10 is a stop pad 30 extending perpendicularly to the members 29 and there above. The pad is provided with a surface covering 31 to prevent the user from slding off the end of the slide at the end of his descent.
Various modifications of the invention may be effected by persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope and principle thereof as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
l. A playground slide adapted for mounting on a staircase comprising a plurality of elongated detachable channel slide sections, the elongated side edges of each section each comprising an elongated socket, an elongated plug fixed to and extending from one of the ends of each socket receivable in a socket of an adjoining section for longitudinal alignment of said sections, a plurality of elongated depending leg supports each having one end hingedly secured to a respective socket with each leg support being elongatedly adjustable, and a plurality of elongated adjustable telescoping brace members with adjustable mounting means on each end thereof .whereby the adjustment of the elongated depending leg supports adjusts the incline angle of the slide with the telescoping brace members each being elongatedly adjusted to connect a respective depending leg support on one slide section with the depending leg support on the same side of the adjacent slide section by means of the adjustable mounting means adjustably engaging the respective legs at any selected points along the length thereof so as to impart rigidity to the overall slide.
