Abstract

A prefabricated trouser-fly comprises a facing strip of material of suitable configuration and of the same or similar appearing material as the trousers, inserted during the manufacturing process under a slide fastener tape secured on a supporting strip, whereafter said facing strip of material is secured to the trousers by stitching, druing the sewing of the prefabricated fly assembly to the trousers, for example, by using a twin-needle sewing machine equipped with a suitable guide member.

No. 155,426, filed on June 22, 1971,

I have disclosed a trouser-fly assembly which is prefabricated at a stage preceding that of the actual making of the trousers. The assembly includes a closing means such as a metallic or synthetic zip fastener, a set of buttons and buttonholes, lugs and hooks, dome-fasteners, or Velcro tapes, etc., secured on supports preferably in the form of tapes to which, during the manufacture, the closure assembly is attached by stitching or sewing, for example, to the main trouser parts.

With a prefabricated trouser-fly of the character disclosed in my copending application, it is possible, while preserving the advantageous features resulting from its novel design, to make trousers whose fly has the appearance approaching that of a conventional fly, except, however, for the fact that in a conventional fly, the outwardly facing portion of the fly consists of a material of the same nature as or identical to that-of the trousers proper.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION K The object of this invention is to further improve the trouser-fly according to the aforesaid copending patent application by giving thereto an appearance so nearly like that of a conventional fly as to be practically indistinguishable.

To this end, a facing strip, of suitable configuration and consisting-preferably of the same material as the trousers, is inserted during the manufacturing process under the slide fastener tape or other fly closing means, and is secured as in said copending patent application to its support, whereafter said facing strip is secured to the trousers, for example, by stitching, during the sewing of the support of the fly assembly to the trousers.

The invention will be described in connection with the drawing, assuming knowledge of my prior invention as described in my copending application Ser. No. 155,426. The illustration in FIG. 2 hereof may be compared with the illustration of my prior invention in FIG. 2 of my aforesaid prior application, the present invention being an improvement thereon.

The present invention relates to prefabricated trouser fly of the same kind as in my prior invention, which is attached by stitching to the fly portion of a pair of trousers.

The prefabricated fly consists of two parts, each in the form of a tape, which are connected by a conventional slide or zip fastener whose catch elements or teeth h are conventionally made of metal or synthetic plastic material. Only one part is shown in FIGS. 1-3 of the drawing, it being the under or inner part which is commonly affixed by sewing to the right part or leg of the trousers fabric m. Said under-part is fabricated from a cloth tape j to form a support. The tape j may be folded over at its edges to form two plies between which may be located a reinforcing strip r, if desired. Upon the outer surface of the support j, a cover or facing strip of material k, preferably identical or similar in appearance to the trouser material, is placed or inserted. Preferably the edge of the facing strip k is folded under, at the edge of the support j, and stitched as at s to the support j. The facing strip extends from the stitched edge over the support j to or nearly to the opposite edge of the support j.

Upon the facing strip, adjacent the edge that is opposite to the edge stitched at s, one element or tape g of a slide-fastener is located and stitched as at i. This completes the right;hand, or under, or inner part of the improved prefabricated fly.

This right-hand part or assembly comprising the support j, slide fastener g and cover strip k, is sewed to the right side or leg of the trouser-fly portion by stitching as at n,n most advantageously by using a known twin needle machine equipped with a conventional guide means for guiding thetrouser part m and the assembly comprised of the support j, the slide fastener g, and the cover strip k.

The left-hand or outer part of the prefabricated fly (shown only in FIG. 4) may be the same as in my prior invention and application Ser. No. 155,426, and may be attached to the left trouser part or leg f as in my said prior invention. As stated in said application, the supporting tape 0 has an inwardly facing surface secured by stitching s to the outer part a of said two part slidefastener with a reinforcing strip g secured also to the supporting tape c by stitching s".

It will be observed from the foregoing description that a fly of conventional appearance is obtained because the facing piece overlies and covers up the outwardly facing surface of the prefabricated inner or under supporting tape j. When the facingj is made of the same material as the trousers, the assembly is indistinguishable in appearance from a conventional fly assembly.

Moreover, the incorporation of the facing j does not essentially require any additional stitching operation beyond what is described in my prior copending application Ser. No. 155,426.

Modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention. Therefore, the invention is not limited to the specific form and dimensions of the invention as herein described.

I claim:

l. A unitary prefabricated fly assembly comprised of two-part interlocked fastening means, an inner flexible supporting tape having an outwardly facing surface secured to an inwardly facing surface of one part of said two-part fastening means, and an outer supporting tape having an inwardly facing surface secured to an outwardly facing surface of the other part of said two-part fastening means, said outer supporting tape overlying when said prefabricated assembly is attached to the trousers the fly will have the same appearance as a conventional trouser fly.

2. A prefabricated fly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said two-part fastening means is a slide fastener, and said facing strip is of exactly the same material as the trousers.

Claims (2)

1. A unitary prefabricated fly assembly comprised of two-part interlocked fastening means, an inner flexible supporting tape having an outwardly facing surface secured to an inwardly facing surface of one part of said two-part fastening means, and an outer supporting tape having an inwardly facing surface secured to an outwardly facing surface of the other part of said two-part fastening means, said outer supporting tape overlying said inner supporting tape with said fastening means between them, said inner tape being adapted to be secured to one side of a trouser fly and said outer tape being adapted to be secured to the other side of a trouser fly; and a facing strip of material wHich is of the same texture and appearance as the trouser material and is secured to the outwardly facing surface of said inner tape covering said outwardly facing surface from the edge thereof to said fastening means, whereby when said prefabricated assembly is attached to the trousers the fly will have the same appearance as a conventional trouser fly.

2. A prefabricated fly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said two-part fastening means is a slide fastener, and said facing strip is of exactly the same material as the trousers.
