ADOLPH OLSON, OF BUTLER, MISSOURI.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,900, dated March 6, 1888.
Application filed November 22, 1887. Serial No. 255,852. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
I at Butler, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains tocertain new and useful improvements in plows, having for its object the provision of simple and efficient means for causing the plow-point to be always properly presented for operation.
To this endthe invention consists, briefly, in the application to the landside of a bar or arm pivoted at one end and capable of adjustment, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are opposite side views of a landside, showing my invention as applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View, and Fig. 4. isa cross-sectional view.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the ordinary landside, having a portion ofits lower edge and inner surface removed, forming recesses a a. On the inner surface of this landside is formed a thickened or widened portion, a, through which is formed a vertical opening or aperture, 0. and in an aperturein the side of this widened portion a works a set-screw, a as shown.
B is an adjustable bar or arm, provided on its upper surface with an approximately L,- shaped groove, 1), extending to near the for- Ward end of said bar or arm. This bar or arm is pivoted at its forward end in the forward end of the groove a, and said bar, being made to conform to the grooved surfaces of thelandside, fits snugly in position therein. To this bar or arm B is rigidly secured a vertical rod or short bar, b, projecting through the aperture or opening in the widened portion a of the landside, said rod or short bar being engaged and held in the desired position by means of the set-screw a It is well known that in practice the heel of the landside becomes worn, consequent upon frequent usage, thus causing the plow to run unevenly. This objection my invention is designed to obviate by reason of the employment of the arm or bar, which upon becoming worn on its under surface can be lowered to the desired extent and securely retained in position by means of the set-screw bearing against one side'thereof. I
From what has been said it will be seen that my invention is extremely simple and cheap, and that by means thereof the plowing is always performed in the desired manner, and the necessity of replacing the worn landside with anew one, when worn,is avoided,
thus proving a great saving in this respect.
I claim as myinvention- The combination, with the landside having grooved surfaces, of the bar or arm having an upper groove corresponding to that of said landside, and pivoted at its forward end, and the rod or short bar passed through a thickened or widened portion and held by a setscrew, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,in presence of two witnesses.
ADOLPH OLSON.
