IMPROVED DOOR-BELL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 37,863, dated March l0, 1863.
To all whom it 11i/ay concern.'
Be it known that I, MELVIN A. GENUNG, of the town of Granville, county of Licking, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Door and Room Bell for Private Houses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in an improved style of door and roorn bell worked by leverpower. The gong-shaped bell is used, similar to the Genung bell, No. 35,603, and worked by the ordinary bell-pull. This bell may be placed at any desired point.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation by reference to the several parts by the letters designated on the accompanying drawings. y
W is the bell-wire, passing through the brackets D, secured to the ceiling to support thesprings E and WiresV; Q, holes through brackets D through which the wires W slide, and pins Src., upon which the springs F are connected; F, spiral springs attached to the wire WV at Z, operating upon the wire W in such a manner as to relieve the bell-spring G, so that it may act for the several wires; R, indicator secured to the wire W at any desired place and operating in such a manner as to designate the calling number 4, the
number secured to the wall behind each respective indicator; X, chain connecting wire W with lever M; E, base of machine; M, lever by which the machine is operated; I, short projection upon lever M to prevent spring G from binding; B, post passing through lever M and riveted to the base 5 O, hammerpost secured to the base by a pin passing through base E and riveted down; A, hammer-arm 5 U, bell-hammer; K, trip secured to lever M at N; G, a continued spring attached to the hammer-arm and wound around the post C, then around the post B, passin gthrou gh lever M at O,and back through lever M at N, operating upon trip K at L; P, hammer-stop att-ached to post C, operating against post V on base E; T, bell-rim; S, self-supporting hinge upon which the bell is hung; J, brackets D With wire IV and springs F, attached to chains X and lever M.
