Abstract

An iron pad comprises a base member having substantially planar upper and lower surfaces. Iron supporting components such as nickel plated steel or Teflon coated steel mounted on the upper surface of the base member supports an iron. Guard rails such as nickel plated steel or Teflon coated steel affixed to the base member prevents an iron supported on the supporting components from falling off the supporting components. A loop affixed to and extending from the base member permits hanging of the iron pad when not in use.

A loop affixed to and extending from the base member permits hanging of the iron pad when not in use.

IRON PAD 'The invention relates to an iron pad.
When a clothes pressing or similar type of iron is utilized, it is very hot, so that upon the completion of the iron process it is important to place the iron in a manner whereby its heat will not damage the surface upon which it rests. Iron pads areprovided for this purpose.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an iron pad of simple structure for effectively, efficiently and reliably supporting a hot iron without damage to the surface on which the pad rests.
An object of the invention is to' provide an iron pad of sturdy structure which may be hung on a hook when not in use. i
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. I is a perspective view of an embodiment of the iron pad of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a front view of the iron pad of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a back view of the iron pad of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the iron pad of FIG. I; and I FIG. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of part of the iron pad of FIG. 1
In the FIGS., the same components areidentified by the same reference numerals.
The iron pad of the invention comprises a base mem ber 1 having a substantially planar upper surface 2 (FIGS. 1, 2 .and 3) and a substantially planar opposite lower surface 3 (FIGS. 2, 3, 4 and 5). The base member I has the same configuration as the base of an iron, with two curved sides 4 and 5 (FIGS. 2, 3, 4 and 5) coming to a point 6 at one end (FIGS. l and 2) and joined by a third flat side 7 at the other end (FIGS. 1 and 3). The base member comprises hard wood or plastic whichis heat resistant.
Iron supporting components 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d and 8e (FIG. I) are mounted on the upper surface 2 of the base member 1 and function to support an iron. The iron supporting means comprises a plurality of spaced A loop 14 is affixed to and extends from the third side 7 of the base member 1 (FIGS. 1 and 3). The loop 14 comprises steel wire and is utilized to hang the iron pad on a convenient hook when not in use.
Each of the-steel rods 8a to 8e of the iron supporting components and each of the guard rails 11a and 11b may comprise steel wire. The steel wire may be nickel plated or coated with Teflon.

'Each of the rods 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d and 8e of the iron supporting means comprises steel which is nickel plated or coated with Teflon.
Guard rails 11a and 11b (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3) are affixed to the base member 1 for preventing an iron supported on the supporting components 80 to 82 from falling off said components. Each of the guard rails 11a and 11b is of substantially curved U-shaped steel configuration. The guard rail 11a has a pair of spaced arms 12a and 12b affixed to the curved side 4 and a substantially curvilinear head 12c joining said arms (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3):
The guard rail llb has a pair of spaced arms 13a and 13b affixed-to the curved side 5 and a substantially curvilinear head 13c joining said arms (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3). Each of the guard rails or railings 11a and 11b comprises steel which is. nickel plated or coated with Teflon. i
While the invention has been described by means of specific examples and in specific embodiments, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
I. An iron pad comprising a base member having substantially planar upper and lower surfaces;
iron supporting components mounted on the upper surface of the base member for supporting an iron, said iron supporting components comprising a plurality of spaced steel rods each of inverted substantially flat U-shaped configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to' the upper surface of the base member and a substantially linear head joining the arms, each of the rods of the iron supporting components being coated with Teflon;
guard means affixed to the base member for preventing an iron supported on the supporting components from falling off said supporting components; and
a loop affixed to and extendingfrom the base member for hanging the iron pad when not in use.
2. An iron pad as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base member has the same configuration as the base of an iroh with two curved sides coming to a point at one end and joined by a third flat side at the other end.
3. An iron pad as claimed in claim 2, wherein the' base member comprises a heat resistant material.

An iron pad as claimed in claim 1, wherein the guard means comprises a pair of railings each of substantially curved U-shaped steel configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to a corresponding one of the'two curved sides and a substantially curvilinear head joining the arms, each of the railings of the guard means being coated with Teflon.
5. An iron pad comprising a base member having substantially planar upper and lower surfaces;
iron supporting components mounted on the upper surface of the base member for supporting an iron, said iron supporting components comprising a plurality of spaced steel rods each of inverted substantially flat U-shaped configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to the upper surface of the base member and a substantially linear head joining the arms, each of the rods of the iron supporting components being plated with nickel;
guard means affixed to the base member for preventing an iron supported onthe supporting components from falling off said supporting components; and
a loop affixed to and extending from the base member for hanging the iron pad when not in use.

An iron pad as claimed in claim 5, wherein the guard means comprises a pair of railings each of substantially curved U-shaped configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to a corresponding one of the two curved sides and a substantially curvilinear head joining the arms, each of the railings of the guard means being plated with nickel.

Claims (6)

1. An iron pad comprising a base member having substantially planar upper and lower surfaces; iron supporting components mounted on the upper surface of the base member for supporting an iron, said iron supporting components comprising a plurality of spaced steel rods each of inverted substantially flat U-shaped configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to the upper surface of the base member and a substantially linear head joining the arms, each of the rods of the iron supporting components being coated with Teflon; guard means affixed to the base member for preventing an iron supported on the supporting components from falling off said supporting components; and a loop affixed to and extending from the base member for hanging the iron pad when not in use.
2. An iron pad as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base member has the same configuration as the base of an iron with two curved sides coming to a point at one end and joined by a third flat side at the other end.
3. An iron pad as claimed in claim 2, wherein the base member comprises a heat resistant material.
4. An iron pad as claimed in claim 1, wherein the guard means comprises a pair of railings each of substantially curved U-shaped steel configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to a corresponding one of the two curved sides and a substantially curvilinear head joining the arms, each of the railings of the guard means being coated with Teflon.
5. An iron pad comprising a base member having substantially planar upper and lower surfaces; iron supporting components mounted on the upper surface of the base member for supporting an iron, said iron supporting components comprising a plurality of spaced steel rods each of inverted substantially flat U-shaped configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to the upper surface of the base member and a substantially linear head joining the arms, each of the rods of the iron supporting components being plated with nickel; guard means affixed to the base member for preventing an iron supported on the supporting components from falling off said supporting components; and a loop affixed to and extending from the base member for hanging the iron pad when not in use.
6. An iron pad as claimed in claim 5, wherein the guard means comprises a pair of railings each of substantially curved U-shaped configuration having a pair of spaced arms affixed to a corresponding one of the two curved sides and a substantially curvilinear head joining the arms, each of the railings of the guard means being plated with nickel.
