For the burning of, for instance, thickened waste liquor from the production of cellulose, devices are known according to which with the aid of an atomizing means the liquor is spread toward the ceiling of a combustion chamber whereas the combustion air is discharged in counter current flow from this ceiling. In order to protect the liquor-burner nozzles extending into the combustion chamber against the high temperature of the flue gases developed from the burning of the liquor, the nozzles are surrounded by a mostly watercooled device. The expenses for such cooling device are rather high. Moreover, the cooling device makes difficult the removal of the nozzles which removal becomes necessary within short intervals in order to clean the nozzles. Another disadvantage of these known devices consists in the high consumption of current by the cooling water pumps and also in the fact that the heat of the cooling water cannot be properly exploited.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention so to design the combustion chamber of the above mentioned type that a separate cooling device will not be needed for the liquor-burner nozzles.
This object and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly from the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawing diagrammatically illustrating a combustion chamber according to the present invention.
The combustion chamber according to the present invention, in which the liquor to be burned is injected into the combustion chamber in a direction counter to the direction of flow of the combustion air, is characterized primarily in that at least on one side of the combustion chamber, which is preferably of rectangular cross section, the pipes which line the combustion chamber are bent out into the combustion chamber, and that the liquor burner nozzles are inserted into the chamber formed by the bending out of the pipes, while the nozzle heads are located between the individual pipes.
According to a further development of the invention, the pipes which are bent into the combustion chamber are toward the interior of the combustion chamber covered by a tamped mass, for instance tamping clay.
In view of the bending out of the cooling pipes into the interior of the combustion chamber, there is created a possibility of positioning the liquor-burner nozzles in an advantageous manner which no longer necessitates an additional cooling of the nozzle elements. The nozzle elements and the auxiliary devices for actuating the same are located so as to be well heatinsulated in the corner or crevice formed by the bending out of the pipes. The cleaning and exchanging of the nozzle elements will with this design of the combustion chamber be possible without difficulties, because practically the nozzle elements are arranged outside the combustion chamber so that an easy accessibility is possible.
The FIGURE on the drawing shows a vertical section of a combustion chamber for burning liquid media or fine granular substances.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that combustion air is, in a manner known per se, blown into the combustion chamber 1 through nozzles 2, 3 which are either parallel to the wall or are inclined toward the outside. In a direction counter to the direction of flow of the combustion air the liquor is injected through nozzles 4. The nozzles 4 and their auxiliary devices 5 are located in a crevice or corner 6 which is formed by the fact that the cooling pipes 7 of the combustion chamber 1 are bent into the interior of the combustion chamber. The particular shaping of the combustion chamber according to the embodiment shown in the drawing is effected at one side of the preferably rectangular combustion chamber 1 and extends over the full width of the combustion chamber.
The nozzle elements 4 and their auxiliary devices 5 are located in a well heat insulated area. An additional heat insulation is effected by the tamping mass 8 applied to the pipe surface within the region where the pipes 7 have been bent out into the interior of the combustion chamber. The liquor to be burned enters the combustion chamber between the individual pipes 7 which, as the case may be, may be slightly bent out within the region where the nozzle heads 9 are located.
It is, of course, to be understood that the present invention is, by no means, limited to the particular showing in the drawing but also comprises any modifications within the scope of the appended claims.
