Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS S. THOMPSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVED MOSQUITO-FRAME.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 37,779, dated February 24, 1863.
' .To all whom it may concern:
clear, and exact description of my said inveufitted to the window with care,or else any opening at the side would defeat the object of the netting.
The nature of my said invention consists in an expanding frame for windows, that can be enlarged or contracted at pleasure snflicientl y to accommodate the slight variations in size usually existing in windows, and said frame is to receive netting or gauze of any characterstretched upon it.
In the drawings, a a are the top bars, I) b the bottom bars, and c c the side bars of my frame. These are to be united at the corners by rivets,
so that the four pairs of bars thus formed can be folded together for transportation or packing'away. d d are clips attached near the respective ends of four of. the said bars, and
receiving through them the other four bars, respectively, so that each side of the frame is made of two bars that may be lengthened or shortened by sliding onepart through the clip on the other part, and'a screw or spring-catch may be employed for holding the bars at the position to which they may be moved. A frame made in this manner may be extended so as to fit the ordinary sizes of windows, and when the size thereof is regulated, it is to be covered with any ordinary gauze or netting, secured in any convenient manner. 1' have represented such netting as attached by sewing through holes in the said bars.
It will be evident that round bars, instead of fiat ones, may be used, in which instance it is the best to have the bar sliding into apipe, and retained in place when expanded by .a tspring upon the pipe taking notches in the ars.
This frame maybe made of any suitable material, although I prefer metal.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-' An expanding mosquito-frame formed of bars fitted so as to be increased or decreased in length to fit the window, and receiving the netting or gauze, and in combination therewith the joint at the angles. for the purposes specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 26th dayof January, 1863.
