Abstract

A therapeutic device for positioning a body in such a manner that the buttocks area of the body is elevated above the blood level of the heart area to relieve the pressure on the legs and buttocks area whereby relief is provided for one suffering from varicose veins, hemorrhoids, or various back injuries and ailments.

UNITED STATES PATENTS 4 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures 2,738,975 Zaboy 128/70 X THERAPEUTIC DEVICE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION While so-called slant boards have been used, these merely place the body at an angle to the horizontal without any particular ability to relieve the blood pressure in the legs and the buttocks area of the body.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is the broad object of the present invention to providean improved therapeutic device useful in relieving the blood pressure in the legs and buttocks area of the body by elevating these areas above the level of the heart area.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The preferred embodiment includes an upper section 6, a lower section 7 and a headrest or pillow section 8. The device is supported by legs 9 ,which have a collapsible joint 10 so that the length of the legs may be reduced for storage or transportation. Hand holds 12 are provided in the lower section 7 to assist a person in positioning himself properly upon the device.

It should be noted that the two sections 6 and 7 are arcuately formed in such a fashion that the bottocks and the legs of a person are substantially elevated above the heart area when the head is resting upon the pillow section 8. The upper and lower sections are hinged together as at 11 so that the sections can be callapsed as is shown in FIG. 3. When the two are in position for use as in FIGS. 1 and 2, they are latched together by a latch 13 engaged with the pin 14. The two sections are complementary and fit together only when collapsed.

From the foregoing, I believe it will be apparent that l have provided a new and improved therapeutic device enabling one to assume a position in which the elevation of the legs and buttocks portion is above that of the heart area so that the pressure in the elevated portions is substantially relieved;

I claim:

1. A therapeutic device for elevating the legs and buttocks of a person above the heart area of the person to relieve the blood pressure in the legs and buttocks of the person to obtain relief from various ailments, comprising first and second oppositely curved arcuate sections, hinge means hingedly joining said sections together at adjacent ends thereof to define a generally S- shaped support for the person, one of said sections being elevated relative to the other section and presenting an upwardly facing convex surface for supporting the legs of the person, the other of said sections presenting an upwardly facing concave surface for supporting the buttocks and at least a portion of the torso of the person, and support means connected to said one section to hold it in said elevated position, said first and second sections foldable about said hinge means into nested relationship with one another for storage of the device.

2. A therapeutic device as in claim 1, wherein a pillow means is attached to the end of said other section remote from said hinge means to provide support for at least the head of the person.

A therapeutic device as in claim 1, wherein said support means comprises a pair of substantially vertical legs connected at their upper ends to said one section adjacent the end thereof remote from said hinge means, said legs including a collapsible joint so that the length of the legs can be reduced for storage or transportation.

4. A therapeutic device as in claim 1, wherein hand hold means are in said other arcuate section to assist a person in positioning himself properly upon the device. l

Claims (4)

1. A therapeutic device for elevating the legs and buttocks of a person above the heart area of the person to relieve the blood pressure in the legs and buttocks of the person to obtain relief from various ailments, comprising first and second oppositely curved arcuate sections, hinge means hingedly joining said sections together at adjacent ends thereof to define a generally S-shaped support for the person, one of said sections being elevated relative to the other section and presenting an upwardly facing convex surface for supporting the legs of the person, the other of said sections presenting an upwardly facing concave surface for supporting the buttocks and at least a portion of the torso of the person, and support means connected to said one section to hold it in said elevated position, said first and second sections foldable about said hinge means into nested relationship with one another for storage of the device.

2. A therapeutic device as in claim 1, wherein a pillow means is attached to the end of said other section remote from said hinge means to provide support for at least the head of the person.

A therapeutic device as in claim 1, wherein said support means comprises a pair of substantiaLly vertical legs connected at their upper ends to said one section adjacent the end thereof remote from said hinge means, said legs including a collapsible joint so that the length of the legs can be reduced for storage or transportation.

4. A therapeutic device as in claim 1, wherein hand hold means are in said other arcuate section to assist a person in positioning himself properly upon the device.
