18 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures PATEFHEU SHEET 1 OF 2 h U un COUCH BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a couch and, more particularly, to a couch for supporting two persons engaging in sexual intercourse.
Proposals have been made prior to the present invention to improve over the conventional mattress for supporting two persons engaging in sexual intercourse. Some of these proposals have dealt with the problem relieving one of the persons from supporting the weight of the other. The weight of a large man superimposed on a much smaller woman can cause considerable discomfort to the woman. U.S. Pat. No. 3,668,722 suggests the use of a pivotal hammock for supporting one person over the other, both to eliminate the weight of the superimposed person and to free the lower person for greater movement. The present invention achieves the same result in a simpler manner and is much less cumbersome to use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide an improved support for two persons engaging in sexual intercourse in a manner to relieve the weight of one person on the other.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a support of the above type which optimizes the relative positions of the two persons for compatible achievement of sexual intercourse.
Toward the fulfillment of these and other objects, the couch of the present invention comprises an elongated support structure having a first upper surface portion extending from a point intermediate the ends of said support structure upwardly to one end of said structure at an angle with respect to the horizontal for supporting the back of one of said persons, and a second upper surface portion connecting with said first upper surface portion. A recess is formed in said support structure and divides said second upper surface portion into two spaced arms for supporting the legs of said one person, said recess being located and dimensioned in a manner to accommodate the other person in a kneeling position between said arms. An alternative embodiment is designed for use with a bed and comprises only the two arms separated by the recess.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the couch of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the couch of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is an end elevational view of the couch of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT As shown in FIGS. 1-3, the couch of the present invention is in the form of an elongated support member, shown in general by the reference numeral 10, having two end portions 12 and 14. A portion of the upper surface of the support member extends substantially horizontally, as shown by the reference numeral 16, with the remaining portion of the upper surface extending at an angle relative thereto, as shown by the reference numeral 18. The two surfaces 16 and 18 meet at a common line 20. A recess 22 is formed in the support member 10 and extends through the entire length of the upper surface 16 from the end 12 to the line 20. As a result, the recess 22 divides the upper surface 16 into two spaced arms having upper surfaces 24 and 26 connecting with the upper surface 18. g
The depth of the recess 22 is less than the vertical dimension of the couch at the surfaces 24 and 26 so that the recess 22 defines a support surface 28 recessed from the surfaces 24 and 26. The width of the recess 22 and, therefore, the width of the surface 28 is selected to accommodate a person in a kneeling position between the surfaces 24 and 26.
In the preferred embodiment, the couch has an overall length of 63 inches, a width of 31 inches, and a height of 20 inches at the end 12 and 26 inches at the end 14. The recess 28 has a length of about 20 inches from the line 20 to the end 12, a width of 24 inches between the surfaces 24 and 26, and a depth of 9 inches. l A pair of brace members 30 and 32 are affixed to the surfaces 24 and 26 at the ends thereof in order to provide two foot braces. These brace members 30 and 32 may be of a rectangular shape having a width corresponding to the width of the surfaces 24 and 26 and a length of 4% inches. The thickness of the brace mem bers is inches.
The couch shown can be manufactured with standard materials and is covered with conventional upholstery including cushioning in the bottom of the recess. Although not shown in the drawings, it is is understood that legs of a relatively short length can be provided on the bottom surface of the support member, in accordance with conventional designs.
In use, the woman lies face up or supine on the support member 10 with her back being supported by the surface 18, her legs being supported in a flexed position with her feet on and being braced by the brace members 30 and 32. The man assumes a kneeling position on the surface 28 facing the woman. In this arrangement, much of the mans weight is supported on his knees rather than on the woman thus relieving her of possible discomfort and freeing her for easier movement. In addition, the braces enable the woman to respond more easily. Moreover, the strain on the man is reduced as explained below.
The angle between the surface 18 and the surfaces 24 and 26 is 172. This angle and the depth of the recess is selected so that the vagina of the woman is positioned to correspond to the position of the penis of the kneeling man. A recess depth which will provide this relative positioning is defined as a depth selected to accommodate sexual intercourse. The distance from the inner end of the braces 30 and 32 from the inner end of the recess 22 is preferably 15 /2 inches and may vary from 14 to 18 inches. This dimension, the depth of the recess and the width of the recess of 21 inches, are im portant and have been selected to optimize the comfortable achievement of sexual intercourse. Because of the positioning provided by the proper selection of the depth of the recess, the strain on the man is greatly reduced. The recess depth, which as pointed out above is preferably 9 inches, may vary from 7 to 11 inches. The recess may be made l1 inches deep and one or more cushions may be provided to partially fill the recess to accommodate persons of different heights. The
width of the recess, which as pointed out above is preferably 24 inches, may vary from 22 to 26 inches.
A pillow maybe provided to completely fill in the recess 22 to enable the couch to be used for resting or sleeping.
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment for use with a bed as shown. The structure of FIG. 4 comprises two spaced arms 40 and 41 divided by a recess 43 extending entirely through the structure. The recess has the same depth and width as in the couch of FIGS. 1-3. Foot braces 46 and 47 are provided at one end of each of the arms. The height of the arms are designed to correspond to the height of the back of a person lying in a bed, which due to the cushioning of the bed mattress is slightly less than the height of the bed measured with no one in it. The height of the back of a person on most beds ranges from l8 to 22 inches. The structure is provided with 4 legs 51 of the adjustable height so that the height of the arms may be made to conform to the height of the back of a person lying on a bed and accordingly permit height adjustments to cover the range of 18 to 22 inches. As in the couch, the structure is covered with upholstery with cushioning in the bottom of the recess.
in use, the structure is placed in abutment with a bed (as shown in H0. 4) with the bed closing off one end of the recess and the foot braces away from the bed. The woman lies supine on the bed with her legs flexed and her feet on the foot braces and the man kneels in the recess. The torso of the woman is positioned at the edge of the bed adjacent to the recess. In this manner, the structure achieves the same advantages for sexual intercourse as the couch of H05. l-3 with the exception of the advantage of the angle provided by sloping surface 18.
Variations of the specific construction and. arrangement of the couch disclosed above can be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claims.
