Application filed October 25, 1887.
until after the rider has mounted, when his gait can be regulated by the said rider. This object I accomplish by the use of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and the novelty resides in certain features thereof,
, hereinafter first fully described, and then pointedout in the claims.
In the drawings referred to, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my device in opera.- Live position; and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing it removed from the animal.
Referring to thedrawings by letter, A indie cates the body-strap, having one end secured to a ring, B, and its other end is'passed through said ring and then doubled on itself and fastened by means of a buckle, G, secured at a suitable intermediate point of. said strap.
D designates a loop or strap which is held by the ring B, and, provided with a fastening and adjusting buckle, E, as shown; and F is a similar loop or strap provided with a fastening and adjusting buckle, G. The loop F is carried by a ring, H, similar to the ring B, and loosely mounted upon the main or body strap A, between the said ring B and the buckle O.
In practice the strap Ais passed around the horses body close up to the fore legs and in I front of the saddle, and the loops D F passed around the fore legs close up to the body. The
7 several straps are then drawn tight, the buckle O of the body-strap being arranged at the left side of the animals body, as shown. The

straps being drawn tight, the animals are i '45 loosens the body-strap, so that the horse may walk or run at the desired gait, which is regulated by loosening or tightening the bodystrap, as will be readily understood.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and When the rider efficient device, the advantages of which are.
obvious.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure .by Letters Patent is-i,
1. A device for breaking horses, comprising the body-strap A, having one end secured to,
a ring, B, and its other end passed through said ring, andthen doubled 011 itself and fast-, 4 i I ened by alouckle, G, theloop D,carried by the ring B,and the loop F, loosely mounted on the body-strap between the ring B and the buckle O, substantially as set forth.
2. A device for breaking horses, comprising the body-strap A, provided at one end with a ring, B, and at an intermediate point with a buckle, O, the free end of the strappassed through the ring B, and then doubledon itself and secured by the buckle G, theloop 1),"carried by the ring B,the ring I-I, loosely mounted on the doubled portion of the strap A, between the ring 'B and the buckle O, and the loop F,
carried by the ring H, substantially as speoil
