This makes it possible for the guide to move together with the slide at a speed that is one half of that of the latter.
2 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures DEVICE FOR ROLLING PROFILES N CYLINDRICAL WORKPIECES The present invention relates to devices for machining materials, preferably metals, by pressure and, more particularly, to devices for rolling of threads, flutings, grooves, markings, etc. on cylindrical workpieces by means of flat die profiles.
Known in the art are devices for rolling signs of marking with the aid of a flat stationary die. These dies are provided with a slide mounted so that it is capable of reciprocating in the longitudinal direction, and used for feeding workpieces to the rolling tool and bringing the workpieces from the latter.
In order to fix the workpiece being marked with respect to the rolling tool, the device is provided with a workpiece guide which is essentially a plate having a through seat accomodating the articles. The guide is disposed on the slide and is connected therewith by one end portion with the aid of a spring.
In the course of longitudinal displacements of the slide the guide moves alongside with the latter. The seat for accomodating the articles is made so that during the guide displacement the workpiece can rotate about its longitudinal axis and, at the same time, cannot move aside.
The main disadvantage of these devices lies in that at the moment marking is being made, i.e., when the workpiece is pressedby the rolling tool, the guide, which strives to move at the speed of the slide,.pushes the workpiece moving at a speed which is twice than the speed of the slide. This results in distortion of the signs of marking. Besides, this results in a quick wearout of the seat wall that is rear relative to the direction of the operation movement.
Widely known in the art are devices for rolling threads between two flat dies of which one may be mounted in a stationary manner on the frame of the device, while the other reciprocates in the longitudinal direction alongside with the slide, or both dies are mounted on different slides moving towards each other.
The main disadvantage of these devices lies in certain distortion of the profile of thread due to a possible skew of the workpiece relative to the rolling dies, since the devices have no arrangements preventing the article from skewing. Attempts that were made to use the afore-described spring-loaded guides in these devices have not eliminated this disadvantage.
It is an object of the present invention to eliminate the afore-mentioned disadvantages of the conventional devices.
The present invention has as its task to find an optimum design of the connection of the guide with the slide.
This task is accomplished by the invention in that in a device for rolling profiles on cylindrical workpieces with the aid of a rolling tool, which is made as flat dies, and to and from which articles are fed by means of a slide mounted in such a manner that it can reciprocate in the longitudinal direction, and provided with an article guide, the guide is mounted so that it is capable of moving in the direction of the slide displacement and embracing the workpiece in such a manner that the latter can freely rotate about its longitudinal axis. It is important that the guide is provided with a gear engaging toothed racks of which one is stationary secured to the frame of the device, and the other is mounted on the slide.
Due to this design the guide moves at a speed that is twice smaller than that of the slide, i.e., at the speed at which the articles move over the slide in both directions. At the same time, the ,guide accompanies the workpiece in the course of the profile rolling, and, while moving with it synchronously, ensures its correct position and precludes any skew. This provides for a high quality of the rolled profile.
Due to the fact that the guide also moves at a speed twice smaller than that of the slide during the reverse movement of the latter, it has become possible to preclude idling of the slide, i.e., to effect rolling of the profile on the article not only during the forward but also during the reverse movement of the slide, which raises by two times the efficiency of the machine and provides for a complete automation of the process.
The following detailed description of an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is given with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1a shows schematically the device for rolling profiles in the form of marking signs, made in accordance with the present invention, in the position when one of the seats is being charged with an article and the other seat is being discharged of a workpiece; the device shown being essentially a variant of the embodiment in which the reverse movement of the slide is used for marking;
FIG. llb is the same device but in the position when an article disposed in one of the seats is being marked;
FIG. 1c is again the same device but in the position when a workpiece is being charged into the second seat and the first seat is being discharged;
FIG. id is the same, in the position when a workpiece disposed in the second seat is being marked during the reverse movement of the slide;
FIG. 2 shows a second variant of the device, in accordance with which it is provided with one charging arrangement; and
FIG. 3 shows a third variant of the device, used for rolling threads, grooves, etc., and also provided with one charging arrangement.
The inventive device comprises a slide 1 (FIGS. 1-3) with a charging hole 2 (FIGS. 1-2), mounted on a frame (not shown in the drawings) so that it can reciprocate in the longitudinal direction with the aid of a drive 3 (FIG. 3); a guide 4 (FIGS. 1-3) with seats 5 (FIGS. 1-3) and 6 (FIG. 1) accommodating workpieces 7 (FIGS. 1-3), and a rolling tool 8.
One end portion of the guide 4 mounts a gear wheel 9 that can freely rotate.
A toothed rack 10 is mounted stationarily on the frame, and a toothed rack 11 is mounted on the slide, said racks engaging the gear wheel 9. The frame also mounts charging arrangements 12 (FIGS. 1-3) and 13 (FIG. 1) made as magazines of workpieces, disposed along the guide 4.
Unlike the afore-described one, the variant of the embodiment shown in FIG. 2 has one charging arrangement 12 and one seat 5 disposed in the guide 4, and in this case the forward movement of the slide is operative while the reverse one is idle.
The device shown in FIG. 3 is a modified variant of the previous embodiment, used for rolling profiles in the form of threads, grooves, etc.
In accordance with this variant the rolling tool consists of two dies of which the upper one 14 is stationary in the frame and the lower one 15 is secured in the slide 1.
The device provided with two charging arrangements functions as follows: At the beginning of the operation the slide 1 and the guide 4 occupy the extreme right position, whereby the seat 6 is disposed under the charging arrangement 12 and is charged with the article 7, whereas the seat is disposed between the rolling tool 8 and the charging arrangement 12 (FIG. 1a). With the slide 1 moving to the left, the guide 4 also moves to the left but at a speed that is twice smaller than the speed of the slide, and, accordingly, moves over half the distance.
Thereby, the article 7 disposed in the seat 6 moves due to the fact that it can rotate freely in the latter along a smooth surface 16 (FIGS. 1-2) of the slide 1, and finally falls under the rolling tool 8. While passing under the rolling tool 8, the workpiece is being marked (FIG. 1b).
With the slide 1 and the guide 4 in turn occupying the extreme left position (FIG. the seat 5 is disposed under the charging arrangement 13, whereas the seat 6 is aligned with the seat 2 of the slide 1 due to the different speeds of movement of the slide 1 and of the guide 4. In this position the seat 6 is discharged and the seat 5 is charged by the charging arrangement 13, the marked workpieces falling by gravity into a chute 17 (FIGS. 1-2).
While moving in the reverse direction, the slide 1 and the guide 4 bring the workpiece disposed in the seat 5 to under the rolling tool 8 to be marked (FIG. 1d).
When in its extreme right position (FIG. la), the seat 6 is disposed under the charging arrangement 12, and a next workpiece rolls therein. At this very moment the seat 5 occupies a position beyond the edge of the slide 1, as a result of which the workpiece is discharged therefrom. Then, the working cycle is repeated in the afore-described manner.
Due to the fact that the guide 4 closes the outlet openings of the charging arrangements 12 and 13, the workpieces are delivered one by one.
The device according to the second variant (FIG. 2) operates in a manner practically analogous to that of the first variant that has been described herein before, with the only difference that the reverse movements of the slide 1 and of the guide 4 are idle. 1
The difference of the operation of the device according to the third variant (FIG. 3), as compared to those of the first and second variants, consists in that it is used for rolling threads, etc. between the two flat dies 14 and 15 (FIG. 3). This embodiment of the device has an idling phase, but if necessary can be modified according to the first variant which has no idling.
What we claim is:
1. A device for rolling profiles on cylindrical workpieces, comprising: a stationary frame; a rolling tool made in the form of flat dies and at least partly mounted on said frame; a slide also mounted on said frame for reciprocation in the longitudinal direction together with a portion of said tool, for feeding the workpieces to and from said tool; a workpiece guide provided above said slide; a first toothed rack stationarily secured to said frame; a cooperating second toothed rack secured to said slide; a gear mounted on said guide and simultaneously engaging both of said racks; and drive means for reciprocating said slide; wherein the ratio between engaging portions of said racks and said gear is such that said guide reciprocates with half the speed and to half the distance as those of said slide, the half speed corresponding to the speed of movement of the workpieces between said dies.
2. The rolling device as defined in claim 1, wherein said guide has two seats made therein for accommading the work-pieces; and said frame has charging arrangements disposed thereon along said guide and at both sides of said tool, for feeding the workpieces into said seats.

Claims (2)

1. A device for rolling profiles on cylindrical workpieces, comprising: a stationary frame; a rolling tool made in the form of flat dies and at least partly mounted on said frame; a slide also mounted on said frame for reciprocation in the longitudinal direction together with a portion of said tool, for feeding the workpieces to and from said tool; a workpiece guide provided above said slide; a first toothed rack stationarily secured to said frame; a cooperating second toothed rack secured to said slide; a gear mounted on said guide and simultaneously engaging both of said racks; and drive means for reciprocating said slide; wherein the ratio between engaging portions of said racks and said gear is such that said guide reciprocates with half the speed and to half the distance as those of said slide, the half speed corresponding to the speed of movement of the workpieces between said dies.
2. The rolling device as defined in claim 1, wherein said guide has two seats made therein for accommading the work-pieces; and said frame has charging arrangements disposed thereon along said guide and at both sides of said tool, for feeding the workpieces into said seats.
