NECK YOKE CENTER.
No. 375,655. Patented De0.'2'7, 1887 Z zass'as'. 6%729.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
DAVID J. SELL AND \VILLIAM E. SELL, OF STURGIS, MICHIGAN.
NECK-YOKE CENTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375.655, dated December 27. 1887.
I Application filed May 9, 1887. Serial No. 137,646. (No1ncde.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, DAVID J. SELL and WILLIAM E. SELL, citizens of the United States, residing at Sturgis, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Neck-Yoke Center, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in neck-yoke centers wherein a metal plate encircles the neck-yoke and supports the carriagetongue.
The object of our improvements is to form the neck-yoke center of a single metal plate encircling the neck-yoke and supporting the carriage-tongue, thereby imparting strength and durability not heretofore attained. We effect this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a horizontal section of the neckyoke center. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the neck-yoke center, drawn through the dotted line on Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in both views.
A A is a continuous metal plate forming the neclcyoke center. One portion, being beutin acircular form, is lined with leather, a act, encircles the neck -yoke, and revolves freely thereon, and has a rectangular flange, B, at the end to receive nut-bolts c c. The other portion of the plate forms a ring with the inner edge beveled, (Z d, and supports the carriage tongue 0. Itis composed of two annular pieces of leather or its equivalent, with the external edges beveled, which when joined form a ring 5 c a are nut-bolts passing through the flange B, the plate A A, the leather covers F F, and metal strip e, and securing the center around the neck-yoke.
WVe are aware that previous to our invention neck-yoke centers have been made of metal plates and leather. WVe therefore do not claim such a combination, broadly; but
What we do claim as our invention, and de sire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a neclryoke center, the combination of a single continuous metal plate encircling the neck-yoke and supporting the carriage tongue by a ring beveled, substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a neclcyoke center, of asingle continuous metal plate encircling the neck-yoke and supporting the carriagetongue by a beveled ring covered with leather and containing a grooved ring, of leather or its equivalent, secured in position, substantially as shown, and for the purposes described.
