BUGGY-TOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,075, dated December 20, 1887.

the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side view of abuggy, showing the buggytop in raised position. Fig. 2 is a side view showing the top closed. Fig. 3 isa rear view of one end of the seat, showing the brace secured thereto. Fig. 4 is a detail.
The invention relates to improvements in frames for the tops of vehicles, and is especially adapted to buggies, the object being to provide a frame and top of simple construction that, when not in use, can be turned entirely back of the seat; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and illustrated in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a vehicle-body, and B the seat thereon.
C is a frame secured to the top edges of the seat, and composed of the side brackets, c c, and transverse rods 0, connecting the rear 0 lower corners of said brackets. The brackets are each provided with an outstanding lug, a, on its front portion,situated near the front upper corner of the corresponding side of the seat,
D D are similar vertical rods, pivoted at their lower ends and at the rear lower corners, (l, of the corresponding brackets, 0, adjacent to the rear corners of the sides of the seat upon the rods 0, the rods D being outside of the 0 brackets. The said rods are provided with the arms E,extending forward from their lower ends, and having the catches e e, adapted to hook over the outstanding lugs 0 when the top is raised. The catches sliding in guides or 5 loops e, secured to the free ends of the arms E, are retracted by elastic cords a when engaged with the lugs, so as to hold more firmly thereon, the said cords having their inner ends secured to the angle formed by the rods D and arnis E.

F F are short arms standing at right angles forward from the tops of the rods D, both the arms E and F being rigidly stayed by the inclined brace-rods f f, as shown. The front ends of the arms F are pivoted or hinged at g to the side rods, h, of the frame H of the canopy or top it, which frame is preferably rectangular, the canopy being supported in a convex form, if desired, by suitably-bent wires or rods.

The upper ends of the brackets c are curved laterally, so as to hook against the arms E when the top is lowered. The device is thus simple and strong of construct-ion, and will turn entirely behind the seat, leaving the same free and unobstructed.

Having described this invention, I claim-- 1.
