2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures BEATING UP DEVICE FOR TRAVELLING WAVE LOOMS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Thepresent invention relates to weaving machines, and more precisely to beating up devices employed in these machines.
This invention can be most advantageously used in travelling wave shedding looms, i.e., looms in which the warp threads form several sheds, each of which accomodates a weft thread carrier.
PRIOR ART Known at the present time are beating up devices comprising a reed in the form of disks with teeth mounted on a shaft placed in bearings. The disks are turned relative to one another so, that their teeth constitute a screw type surface followed by the bevel of the weft carrier (see, for example, USSR Authors Certificate No.25004l cl.86c, 17).
These known beating up devices cannot move the weft carrier over the bearing of the shaft on which the disks with teeth are mounted, i.e., outside the shed.
Various types of conventional conveyers used in such devices serve only to move the weft carrier to a hopper for its recharging, or to return it to the initial position. Besides, such conveyers require an additional drive which must operate in synchronism with the drive of the shaft carrying the reed disks. The additional drive further complicates the design of the device as a whole.
True, there have been attempts to realize movement of the weft carrier over the shaft bearing, for example, by means of a worm mechanism located outside the shed. However, such conveyers also require additional drives, which increases the overall dimensions of the device. In addition, such conveyers must be very accurately positioned with respect to the reed disks, so that the screw type surface of the worm continues the screw type surface formed by the teeth of the disks. Otherwise, the appropriate trajectory of the weft carrier movement at its exit from one shed and entry into the other shed will be disturbed.
OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to eliminate the aforementioned disadvantages.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device, including a mechanism for moving the weft carrier outside the shed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device, requiring no additional drives, and having a simple design.
With these and other objects in view, in a beating up device, comprising a reed in the form of disks with teeth which are mounted on a shaft placed in bearings, and being turned relative to one another so that their teeth constitute a screw type surface followed by the bevel of the weft carrier, according to the invention, the housing of each bearing on either side of the shaft and concentrically therewith being provided with slots accommodating a mechanism to move the weft carrier outside the shed formed by the warp threads. The mechanism comprises cams mounted on the shaft and located within said slots on both sides of the bearing, the profile of the cams matching with that of-the screw type surface defined by the teeth of the reed disks, and serving to move the weft carrier, while thedistance between the cams does not exceed the bevel length of the weft carrier. Such a design provides for the movement of the weft carrier over the shaft bearing, since the cam profile continues the screw type surface defined by the teeth of the reed disks and serving to move the weft carrier within the shed. Moreover as, the cams are mounted on the same shaft as the disks, no additional drive is required for their rotation.
For a better understanding of the invention considered further is a particular illustrative embodiment thereof with reference to the appended drawings, wherein:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE BEATING UP DEVICE The device comprises a reed in the form of disks 1 (FIG. 1) with teeth 2,3, and 4 mounted on a drive shaft 5, and a mechanism 6 to move a carrier 7 of weft thread 8 outside the shed formed by the warp threads (not shown in the drawings).
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVICE Disks 1 are mounted on shaft 5 so that they are turned relative to one another with, their teeth 2,3, and 4 defining a screw type surface along which moves bevel 9 of the weft carrier 7. Tooth 2 is the widest and shortest tooth, and serves to move carrier 7 in the shed formed by the warp threads. Tooth 3 is a medium tooth, and tooth 4 the highest with, both of these teeth serving to beat up the weft thread 8 to the fell of fabric. The fabric forming process is not described in this application, since it is realized by any conventional method. Carrier 7 is disposed in a recess formed by the short teeth 2 and high teeth 4, and is also retained against dropping out by a channel 10 (FIG. 2) formed in stationary plates 11 which are mounted in the beating up device.
To increase the loom productivity several cloths of fabric are woven therein at a time. For this purpose, shaft 5 is connected in bearing 12 with another shaft '16 to form a single body. Such a connection of the shaft can be repeated many times depending on the loom width.
OPERATION OF THE DEVICE With rotation of shaft 5, the wide teeth 2 of the reed disks 1 slip against bevel 9 of the carrier 7 of the weft thread 8 moving it in the shed formed by the warp threads. As carrier 7 approaches bearing 12 of shaft 5, cams 15, due to their profile, pick up the carrier and transfer it up to the wide tooth 2 of disks I of the other reed mounted in the next shed, whereupon carrier 7 moves in the new shed as described above. The cycle of the weft carrier movement over the bearing of the shaft with disks is thus repeated.
Hence, the above-described mechanism enables the weft carrier to pass from one shed into the other without interrupting its trajectory of movement, and providing for adequate laying of the weft thread which is sheared by the with, its ends forming the fabric selvages.
What I claim is:
l. A beating up device for a travelling wave shedding loom, comprising: bearings; a shaft located in said bearings; a reed defined by disks provided with teeth mounted on said shaft, said disks being turned relative to one another so that their teeth constitute a screw type surface; a weft thread carrier having a bevel whereby this carrier moves along said screw type surface, one of said teeth one of said teeth serving to beat up the weft thread to the fell of the fabric; a housing for each of said bearings, said housing being provided on either side thereof and concentric with said shaft with slots; and means disposed in said slots for moving the weft carrier outside the shed formed by the warp threads over the shaft bearing.

The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the means to move the weft carrier comprises cams mounted on the shaft and located within said slots on either side of the bearing, the profile of the cams matching that of said screw type surface and serving to move the weft carrier, while the distance between said cams does not exceed the length of the carrier bevel.
Claims (2)
1. A beating up device for a travelling wave shedding loom, comprising: bearings; a shaft located in said bearings; a reed defined by disKs provided with teeth mounted on said shaft, said disks being turned relative to one another so that their teeth constitute a screw type surface; a weft thread carrier having a bevel whereby this carrier moves along said screw type surface, one of said teeth one of said teeth serving to beat up the weft thread to the fell of the fabric; a housing for each of said bearings, said housing being provided on either side thereof and concentric with said shaft with slots; and means disposed in said slots for moving the weft carrier outside the shed formed by the warp threads over the shaft bearing.
2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the means to move the weft carrier comprises cams mounted on the shaft and located within said slots on either side of the bearing, the profile of the cams matching that of said screw type surface and serving to move the weft carrier, while the distance between said cams does not exceed the length of the carrier bevel.
