Often times the user picks up splinters or scraped or lacerated fingers and hands. In addition, it is very tiring to grip sandpaper during prolonged use.
Accordingly, one of the principle objects of the present invention is to provide a simple inexpensive sanding glove which will eliminate many of the foregoing listed problems. It is another object of the present invention to provide a sanding glove which is easily fabricated and which is convenient and safe for both the professional painter and the average home owner. Still another object of this invention is to provide a sanding glove which can be used on either hand allowing one hand to be rested from time to time, and also allowing one style for both right and left handed users.
lt is another object of this invention to provide a sanding glove or mitt which has sandpaper affixed to both outer surfaces, thus prolonging its useful life. Still another object is to provide a finger sanding glove so that the user can reach normally inaccessible spots with some facility.
These and other objects have advantages which will become apparent hereinafter.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A sanding glove having sandpaper on its outer surfaces which is retained on the hand by means of a stretchable cuff which fits around the wrist of the user.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. l is a plan view of a sanding mitt embodying the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. l;
FIG. 3 is a plan view of a finger type sanding glove embodying the present invention;
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 3;
FIG. 5 is a plan view of a modified finger type glove and;
FIG. 6 is a sectional view taken along line 6--6 of FIG.. 5;
DETAILED DESCRIPTION FIG. 1 shows a sanding mitt 10 which has sandpaper l1 on its palm area 12 and the thumb area 13 and an expandable stretchable cuff 14 fitted to the open side of the glove. The cuff 14 is designed to fit around the wrist of the user to retain the glove l on the hand of the user during use.
The mitt 10 has a cloth hand covering l5 and the sandpaper ll is affixed to the cloth l (as by the stitching 16) around the periphery of the sandpaper l1. The back of the mitt also has a sandpaper covering 11a (FIG. 2) as do both sides of the thumb 13. With this type construction the mitt 10 is interchangeable, that is, it can be used on either the right hand or the left hand of the user. This is a very economical type construction and allows the user to change hands during working so as to keep one hand from becoming unduly fatigued. This also is an advantage in that only one type mitt needs to be made for right and left handed users. The mitt 10 and the other modifications can be manufactured in different sizes and different grits or degrees of smoothness of the sandpaper.
FIGS. 3 and 4 show a finger glove 20 which has sandpaper 21 over the palm surface 22. The glove 20 ernbodies a cloth hand covering 23 and the sandpaper outer covering 2l which is stitched to the hand covering 23 around its periphery at 24. A stretchable cuff 25 is positioned at the open end of the glove 20 and fits around the wrist of the user to snuggly engage the users wrist. The cuff 25 retains the glove 20 on the hand of the user. The finger glove 20 is useful for sanding shaped parts and for reaching normally inaccessible spots using the sandpaper covered fingers 26.
FIGS. 5 and 6 show a modification of the finger glove of FIGS. 4 and 5. The modified finger glove 30 has five fingers 31. The thumb 31a and little finger 3lb are constructed substantially alike. The glove 30 comprises a cloth body 32 which engages the hand of the user, and a sandpaper covering 33 and 33a over the outer surfaces of the glove 30. The sandpaper 33 and 33a is stitched at 34 to the inner hand covering 32 around its outer periphery. A stretchable cuff 35 retains the glove on the hand of the user. The glove 30 shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 is substantially interchangeable between the right hand and left hand of the user and allows the user to sand shaped objects and to reach normally inaccessible objects.
The sandpaper surfaces l l and 1 la of FIGS. 2 and 33 and 33a of FIG. 6 are connected by flexible webs 40. Thus one could make a glove which would have sandpaper outer surfaces connected by a peripheral web 40, if it were desired to eliminate the remainder of the cloth inner hand covering. A pliable emery paper can be used for making the gloves of this invention without a separate cloth inner member.
Thus, it is that the present invention achieves all of the objects and advantages sought therefore.
This invention is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the invention which fall within the scope of the invention.
What is claimed is: v
l. A glove for sanding surfaces to be smoothed or cleaned comprising a glove having sanding grit positioned on substantially the entire sanding surface thereof so that the glove can be used on both the right and left hands of a user, the glove having substantially identical little finger and thumb pockets and the sanding grit covers the palm and adjacent finger areas of the outer surface thereof so that both surfaces'of the glove can be used on both the right hand and the left hand of the user.
