(Ci. 2-161) The invention relates a glove for doing household work, in particular when peeling potates and cleaning vegetables, Without a knife or other appliance.
Working gloves of rubber or plastic material for household use are known. Working gloves that have been in use so far, primarily served the purpose of protecting the skin from washing liquids, fruit and vegetable juices and dirt. These known gloves mostly have a smooth surface and are provided with a slightly rcughened surface only in the handling areas to increase the frictional contact with the articles which are handled.
The present invention is directed to the task of providing a glove for house work which substantially simplifies and improves the peeling of potatoes and the cleaning of vegetables while at the same time providingy the desired protection for the hands with respect to dirt and vegetable juices.
In accordance with the invention, this problem is solved in that the outer surface of the glove is provided with a rough surface in those areas which contact the vegetables to be cleaned. The roughened surface generally covers the palm of the hand, the insides of the fingers and the thumb.
In accordance with another feature of the invention, the thumb has its outer surface provided with a roughened surface over its entirety so that it may serve as a kind of tool when cleaning the vegetables. The glove consists of rubber or rubber-like synthetics. In accordance with the invention, the roughened surfaces are constituted by rough members of granular polyvinyl chloride synthetics or similar material having sharp edges which are applied onto the surface.
Another feature of the invention lies in the fact that the glove is lined with a low friction material and is highly flexible in order to quickly put on or take off the glove. 'fThis low friction material generally consists of a textile abric.
To manufacture the new working glove,'the finished low friction lining, for instance a pre-sewed glove of Woven material, is provided with a coating of polyvinyl chloride material in a dipping process. Subsequently,
the sharp-edged granules produced on a polyvinyl chloride or similar material basis are applied onto the surface. Finally, the glove is subjected to a heat treatment at 180, the so-called gelling step, in which the polyvinyl chloride material is solidified and an intimate connection is effected between the glove and the sharp-edged granules.
Using this glove, vegetables such as, for instance, potatoes, turnips, carrots, kohlrabi and similar products of the fields may be cleaned and peeled without any other auxiliary means. In so doing, the fruits are turned between the rough surfaces of the gloves and cleaned with the aid of water. The abrasion of the vegetables by means of the rough surfaces of the gloves offers the advantage that only a very thin surface layer is removed'from the fruits so that the nutrients which are mostly lyingV directly underneath the peel andthe layers rich is vitamins are not removed together with the peel.
Indentations which may be present at thesurface from which the peel is not removed during the simple abrading operation may be retreated with the aid of the roughened surfaces of the thumb. The peeling glove surpasses cleaning machines which are driven by hand, because any indentations of the fruit may be neatly cleaned by the thumb.

With the aid of the new glove, which at the same time protects the hand, any housewife may easily handle her work in contradistinction to the more or less complicated peeling machines, which must always be fastened to some rigid underlayers and in which, for instance, moveable peeling knives must be forced back in order to centrally pierce each individual fruit to be peeled and in which only the continuous rotation of a handle makes possible the peeling operation.
One embodiment of the glove in accordance with the invention which is intended for household work, is shown by Way of example in FIGS. 1 to 3. In the drawings,

The glove is provided inside with a lining of a low friction material 1 and the outside consists of a layer of rubber or rubber-like synthetics 2. The palm of the hand, the insides of the four fingers and the thumb of the surface of layer 2 are covered with a roughened surface 3 which is shown hatched in the drawings. The roughened surface 3 consists of sharp-edged granules 4 made of polyvinyl chloride synthetics or a similar material. The thumb 5 has the whole of its surface provided with the roughening granules 4.
What l claim is:
1. A hand covering having an abrasive surface `for peeling foods and the like comprising, in combination, an inner fabric liner having palm, finger, and thumb portions and an outer surface, an impervious flexible material bonded to said liner outer surface forming a continuous film thereover, an outer surface defined on said film, a plurality of sharp-edged, abrasive granules bonded to said film outer surface whereby sharp edges thereof extend from said film outer surface, said granules being located on said film outer surface on said palm portion, the inside of said linger portion, and entirely over and about said thumb portion.
2. A hand covering having an abrasive surface for peeling foods and the like comprising, in combination, an inner fabric liner having an outer surface, an impervious, flexible film of polyvinyl chloride bonded to the outer surface of said liner, an outer surface defined on said film and a plurality of sharp-edged, polyvinyl chloride granules bonded to said film outer surface, sharp edges thereof extending from said film outer surface.
3. A hand covering having an abrasive surface for peeling foods and the like comprising, in combination, an inner fabric liner having palm, finger, and thumb portions and an outer surface, an impervious flexible llm of polyvinyl chloride bonded to said liner outer sur face, an outer surface defined on said film, a plurality of sharp-edged, abrasive granules of polyvinyl chloride bonded by a heat treatment' to said film outer surface whereby'sharp edges thereof extend from said film outer surface, said granules being located in said film outer surface on said palm portion, the inside of said finger porg tion, and entirely over and about said thumb portion.

1. A HAND COVERING HAVING AN ABRASIVE SURFACE FOR PEELING FOODS AND THE LIKE COMPRISING, IN COMBINATION AN INNER FABRIC LINER HAVING PALM, FINGER, AND THUMB PORTIONS AND AN OUTER SURFACE, AN IMPERVIOUS FLEXIBLE MATERIAL BONDED TO SAID LINER OUTER SURFACE FORMING A CONTINUOUS FILM THEREOVER, AN OUTER SURFACE DEFINED ON SAID FILM, A PLURALITY OF SHARP-EDGED, ABRASIVE GRANULES BONDED TO SAID FILM OUTER SURFACE WHEREBY SHARP EDGES THEREOF EXTEND FROM SAID FILM OUTER SURFACE, SAID GRANULES BEING LOCATED ON SAID FILM OUTER SURFACE ON SAID PALM PORTION, THE INSIDE OF SAID FINGER PORTION, AND ENTIRELY OVER AND ABOUT SAID THUMB PORTION.
