1,596,681 8/1926 Newman 2/78 E 2 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures DERRIERE PANEL PANTY GIRDLE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a panty girdle having a derriere panel functioning both as a modesty flap and to control and flatten the derriere.
2. Description of the Prior Art In recent years, the use of panty girdles has become increasingly popular for providing well contoured con- 1 trol of abdomen, buttocks and upper thighs. The use of such panty girdles is particularly advantageous when wearing slacks or other pant-like clothing. However, use of such undergarments introduces the problem that the girdle must be moved up or down or taken off for defecation and/or urination. The problem is magnified in all-in-one foundation incorporating a panty girdle.
In the past, this problem has been approached by providing the panty girdle with a completely removable crotch piece or detachable crotch insert. Alternatively, some girdles have included a circular opening covered by a free hanging rear modesty flap, or by a pair of front and rear flaps having free ends which were connectible under the crotch. Such prior art solutions were unsatisfactory, since the added crotch piece or flap often was difficult to remove, and caused objectionable binding or irritation. Further, crotch flaps presented unsightly bulges or folds beneath the outer garment. In no instance did such prior art modesty flaps enhance the control function of the girdle. The present invention overcomes these shortcomings of the prior art, by providing a panty girdle having a dierriere panel which enhances buttocks control and also selectively covers a crotch opening permitting natural body function therethrough.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a panty girdle having a derriere panel which functions as a modesty flap while also controlling and flattening the derriere.
In a preferred embodiment, the panty girdle includes body encircling front and rear panels terminating at leg members, and having a crotch opening extending rearwardly from a lower recess in the front body panel. A generally diamond shaped derriere panel is attached to the rear body panel along an inverted V-shaped seam, and includes a lower generally triangular portion which is detachably connectable to the front body panel lower recess for selectively covering the crotch opening.
Thus it is an object of the present invention to provide a panty girdle including a derriere panel which provides buttocks control while functioning as a modesty panel.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Detailed description of the invention will be made with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts in the several figures.
FIG. 1 is a pictorial view showing the front of the inventive panty girdle in position on the body of a wearer.
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary pictorial viewshowing the rear of the new undergarment.
FIGS. 3 and 4 are enlarged fragmentary views showing the front and rear of the panty girdle with the derriere panel detached to uncover the crotch opening.
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view of the panty girdle as seen generally along the line of 5-5 of FIG. 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The following detailed description is of the best presently contemplated mode of carrying out the invention. This description is not to be taken in alimiting sense,
0 but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention since the scope of the invention best is defined by the appended claims.
Referring now to the drawings, and particularly to FIGS. 1 and 2 thereof, there is shown a panty girdle 10 in accordance with the present invention. Girdle 10 includes a front body panel 1 l and a rear body panel 12, each typically fabricated of two-way stretch material, and joined by zig-zag stitching along side seams l3, 14. Body panels ll, 12 termimate at thigh encircling panty legs 15, 16. Front panel 11 includes a lower recess 17 to the sides of which are sewn respective inner legforming sections l8, 19 (FIG. 3) integral with rear body panel 12.
The lower triangular portion 22b of derriere panel 22 is substantially free and functions as a modesty flap. Accordingly, the lower apex of derriere panel 22 is provided with hooks 24 for attachment to eyelets 25 (FIG. 3) caught in the seam along the top 'of front panel re- .cess 17. When so attached, derriere panel 22 completely covers crotch opening 20, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 5. Derriere panel 22 may be opened as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, to allow urination or defication through opening 20 without removing panty girdle 10.
In the embodiment shown, panty girdle 10 comprises an all-in-one foundation garment including an integral brassiere 26 and abdomen or waistline shaping panels 27. However, the invention is not so limited, and derriere panel 22 may be incorporated in panty type undergarments of other configurations.
Intending to claim all novel, useful and unobvious features shown or described, I make the following claims:
1. In a foundation garment:
a. a front panel and a rear panel sewn along adjacent marginal edges to define a body encircling memher, said front panel including lower portions extending downwardly on either side of a central lower recess, said rear panel including lower portions also extending downwardly and joined with the respective front panel lower portions adjacent said recess to form a pair of thigh encircling panty legs,
b. a crotch opening extending from said lower recess rearwardly past the anal opening region, said openfree modesty flap terminating at an apex attachable to said front body panel adjacent said recess to cover said crotch opening, and detachable to allow urination and defecation through said crotch openmg.
2. A panty girdle as defined in claim 1 wherein said apex and the material adjacent said recess are provided with cooperating hook and eyelet fasteners.
Claims (2)
1. In a foundation garment: a. a front panel and a rear panel sewn along adjacent marginal edges to define a body encircling member, said front panel including lower portions extending downwardly on either side of a central lower recess, said rear panel including lower portions also extending downwardly and joined with the respective front panel lower portions adjacent said recess to form a pair of thigh encircling panty legs, b. a crotch opening extending from said lower recess rearwardly past the anal opening region, said opening being formed in said rear panel and bordered by said rear panel lower portions, and c. a unitary, generally diamond shaped derriere panel fashioned of two-way stretch material and having an upper triangular portion attached only along an inverted V-shaped seam and overlying the buttocks covering section of said rear body panel to provide derriere control, the lower generally triangular portion of said derriere panel forming a substantially free modesty flap terminating at an apex attachable to said front body panel adjacent said recess to cover said crotch opening, and detachable to allow urination and defecation through said crotch opening.
2. A panty girdle as defined in claim 1 wherein said apex and the material adjacent said recess are provided with cooperating hook and eyelet fasteners.
