J. P. BAUMANN.
LOOP FOR SHIRTS.
No. 373,918. Patented Nov; 29, 1887 WITNESSES N. F'ETERS. Phub-Lilhogmphun Wanhinglom ac.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUs P. BAUMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LOOP FOR SHIRTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,918, dated November 29, 1887. Application filed September 20, 1887. Serial No. 250, K37. (No mode'.)
have invented certain new and useful Improvernents in Loops for Shirts, &c., of which.
the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved loop for connecting the buttons of the bosoms of flannel shirts, shirt-waists, and similar garments, the loop being very ornamental in appearance and readily applied without tying to the buttons of said shirts.
The invention consists of a loop for flannelshirt bosonis and the like which is formed of two or more cords that are stitched together parallel to each other and formed by double crossing into looped ends, and an intermediate connecting portion, as will appear more fully hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a flannel shirt with my improved loops. Figs. 2 and 3 are front views of two loops made, respectively, of three and two cords each; and Figs. 4 and 5 are vertical transverse sections respectively on lines a: or and y y, Figs. 2 and 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, a (1 represent my improved loops, which are used for connecting the buttons of the bosoms of flannel shirts, shirtwaists, and similar garments. Each loop is made of two or more cords, b b, which are arranged sidewise of each other and connected by lateral stitches, the cords being cut offinto the proper length required for the loop, and
then formed into the required shape by crossing the cords twice and stitching them together at the points of crossing, so that two loop-shaped ends, d d, and an intermediate linkshaped connecting portion, 6, are obtained.
The cords used for making the loops may be of different colors, whereby the ornamental appearance of the same is greatly'increased. The looped ends are applied to the buttons of the flannel shirts, as shown in Fig. 1.
The loops are made entirely ready, and are then applied to the buttons of the bosoms in place of the tied lacings heretofore in use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 7 as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A connecting loop for the buttons of flannelshirt bosoms and the like, composed of cords connected by lateral stitches and crossed in such a manner as to form looped ends and an intermediate connecting portion, the cords forming the loop being fastened at the points of crossing, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
