SHEEHAN STAND FOR SUPPORTING GUITAR SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My invention is directed toward a stand, both decorative and functional adapted to support an acoustic guitar in not quite vertical position whereby the guitar can be easily removed for use or returned to storage.
To this end, I provide a base adapted to rest on the floor or other surface, said base having vertical walls on three sides with a common top edge defining a periphery and a well containing a generally horizontal sling. Of the vertical walls, two opposite parallel walls are end walls, and the remaining wall extending at right angles to the end walls is a rear wall. The base has legs, front and rear, the front legs being longer than the rear legs whereby the base is tilted.
A platform secured to the center of the rear wall and extending rearward has the same angle of tilt.
An elongated bar is secured at its bottom end to the platform and extends upward at right angles thereto. A
member secured to the top end of the bar extends at BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my invention; and FIG. 2 is a side view of my invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1 2, a base has a rear wall 10 extending at right angles between first and second parallel end walls 14. These walls enclose a well 16 having a generally horizontal but tilted thin flexible sling 18 disposed therein.
The base is supported on front legs 20 and rear legs 22, the front legs being somewhat longer than the rear legs to cause the base to tilt downward from front to rear.
A platform 24 secured to the middle of the rear wall and supported by peg 26 has the same angle of tilt.
An elongated bar 28 is secured at its bottom end to the platform and extends upward at right angles to the platform whereby the bar is inclined from the vertical.
A flat member 30 is secured to bar 28 adjacent its top end and extends forward over the base at right angles to the bar. The end of the member 30 overlying the well defines a yoke 32, i.e., the member is bifurcated.
The resulting stand can then be used to support a guitar in the manner previously indicated.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention, what is asserted as new is:
l. A stand for a guitar comprising:
a base tilted downward from front to rear and having a well;
a sling in said well; 7
an elongated bar inclined from the vertical;-
and a flat member secured to the bar adjacent its top end and extending forward over the base, the end of the member overlying the well defining a yoke; wherein a platform is secured to the base and having the same angle of tilt; the bottom end of the bar is secured to the top surface of the platform; and said bar is perpendicular to the platform.
2. A stand as set forth in claim 1 wherein the sling is thin and flexible and spans the well.
3. A stand as set forth in claim 2 wherein the base has front legs and rear legs, the front legs being longer than the rear legs.
Claims (3)
1. A stand for a guitar comprising: a base tilted downward from front to rear and having a well; a sling in said well; an elongated bar inclined from the vertical; and a flat member secured to the bar adjacent its top end and extending forward over the base, the end of the member overlying the well defining a yoke; wherein a platform is secured to the base and having the same angle of tilt; the bottom end of the bar is secured to the top surface of the platform; and said bar is perpendicular to the platform.
2. A stand as set forth in claim 1 wherein the sling is thin and flexible and spans the well.
3. A stand as set forth in claim 2 wherein the base has front legs and rear legs, the front legs being longer than the rear legs.
