  • a method for the production of cigarette pack- I ages comprising the steps of:
  • a method for the production of cigarette packages as defined in claim 6, comprising the additional step of: placing a cut through a portion of said first foil web, said second foil web, said covering foil web and said foil band adjacent said trough in a direction transverse to said longitudinal direction of said first foil web to separate said foil bands between adjacently disposed troughs to allow the opening of a single trough at a time when tearing off said foil band.
  • An apparatus for manufacturing cigarette packages comprising in combination:
  • a power drive operatively associated with and driven by said drive unit
  • a drum having a plurality of depressions disposed around its peripheral surface, said drum being rotatably mounted on and driven by said power drive;
  • At least one supply roll to supply a continuous first foil web of packaging material to overlay an arcuate portion of said peripheral surface of said drum;
  • heating means operatively associated with said drum to heat said first foil web overlying said peripheral surface of said drum .to make it pliable;
  • vacuum creating means operatively associated with said plurality of depressions in said drum to draw heated portions of said first foil web of packaging material into said depressions to create troughs in said first foil web, said troughs being adapted to subsequently contain cigarettes;
  • a filling drum mounted on and driven by said power drive, disposed adjacent said drum, said filling drum having a plurality of depressions in its peripheral surface corresponding to said depressions in said drum and being adapted to receive said troughs in said first foil web,
  • At least one trimming device situated between said drum and said filling drum adapted to slit said troughs in said continuous first foil web in a longitudinal direction of said first foil web to define at least one opening in each of said troughs through which the cigarettes to be contained therein may be subsequently removed, and to produce at least one cap in each of said troughs to close said openings;
  • cigarette filling means disposed above said filling drum adapted to deposit at least one cigarette in each of said troughs in said first foil web;
  • a roller disposed in contiguous relationship to said filling drum downstream from said filling means; at least one supply roll to supply a continuous cover ing foil web material to said roller, said continuous web being disposed between said roller and said filling drum to lie over said continuous foil web and close said troughs containing said cigarettes;
  • folding means to fold said series of sealed packages into individual packages each containing at least one of said troughs
  • a hopper to contain cigarettes having an open funnelshaped lower end portion adapted to release at least one of said cigarettes at a time through said opening;
  • conveying means disposed beneath said open funnelshaped lower portion of said hopper and extending to a point adjacent said filling drum adapted to receive said cigarettes from said hopper and convey them to said filling drum;
  • shaking means operatively associated with said conveying means to vibrate said conveying means and in turn said cigarettes located on said conveying means to shake loose tobacco particles from said cigarettes;
  • a sieve located generally horizontally in said container dividing it into an upper part and a lower vessel part;
  • a vacuum pump operatively associated with said lower vessel part of said container to clear said lower vessel part of said tobacco particles
  • spacing means disposed above said conveying means at an end thereof adjacent said filling drum having cleats disposed transverse to the travel of said conveying means defining spaces each of which are adapted to receive at least one cigarette to ensure that said cigarettes are deposed with the desired spacing from said conveying means to said troughs in said first foil web.
  • An apparatus for manufacturing cigarette packages as defined in claim 9, comprising the additional elements of:
  • At least one steam nozzle positioned adjacent said conveying means to direct steam against at least one end of each of said cigarettes located on said conveying means;
  • shaking means operatively associated with said conveying means at a point immediately downstream from said steam nozzle to vibrate said conveying means and in turn said cigarettes located on said conveying means to shake loose tobacco particles from said cigarettes;
  • a sieve located generally horizontally in said container dividing it into an upper part and a lower vessel part;
  • a vacuum pump operatively associated with said lower vessel part of said container to clear said lower vessel part of said tobacco particles.
  • said rails are comprised of a plurality of longitudinal sections
  • shaking means are operatively associated with at least one of said sections to vibrate said cigarettes placed transversely across said rails.
  • said conveying means comprises two spaced apart wires to support and convey said cigarettes disposed transversely across said wires, the space between said spaced apart wires allowing said loose tobacco particles to drop into said container eliminating any possibility of said loose tobacco particles from being conveyed to and deposited in said troughs in said first foil web with said cigarettes.
  • said shaking means comprise electronic devices disposed adjacent at least one of said wires and in turn said cigarettes supported across said wires.
  • An apparatus for manufacturing cigarette packages comprising in combination:
  • a power drive operatively associated with and driven by said drive unit
  • a drum having a plurality of depressions disposed around its peripheral surface, said drum being rotatably mounted on and driven by said power drive;
  • At least one supply roll to supply a continuous first foil web of packaging material to overlay an arcuate portion of said peripheral surface of said drum;
  • heating means operatively associated with said drum to heat said first foil web overlaying said peripheral surface of said drum to make it pliable;
  • vacuum creating means operatively associated with said plurality of depressions in said drum to draw heated portions of said first foil web of packaging material into said depressions to create troughs in said first foil web, said troughs being adapted to subsequently contain cigarettes;
  • a hopper to contain cigarettes having an open funnelshaped lower end portion adapted to release at least one of said cigarettes at a time through said opening;
  • conveying means disposed beneath said open funnelshaped lower portion of said hopper and extending to a point adjacent said drum adapted to receive said cigarettes from said hopper and to convey them to said drum;
  • shaking means operatively associated with said con veying means to vibrate said conveying means and in turn said cigarettes located on said conveying means to shake loose tobacco particles from said cigarettes;
  • a seive located generally horizontally in said container dividing it into an upper part and a lower vessel part;
  • a vacuum pump operatively associated with said lower vessel part of said container to clear said lower vessel part of said tobacco particles
  • spacing means disposed above said conveying means at an end thereof adjacent said drum, said conveying means having cleats disposed transverse to the travel of said conveying means defining spaces each of which is adapted to receive one cigarette to ensure that said cigarettes are deposed with the desired spacing from said conveying means into said trough in said first foil web;
  • At least one supply roll to supply a continuous covering foil web material to said roller, said continuous covering web being disposed between said roller and said drum to lie over said continuous first foil web and close said troughs containing said cigarettes;
  • welding means to seal said continuous covering foil web to said continuous foil web.
  • At least one steam nozzle positioned adjacent said conveying means to direct steam against at least one end of each of said cigarettes;
  • shaking means operatively associated with said conveying means at a point immediately downstream from said steam nozzle to vibrate said conveying means and in turn said cigarettes located on said conveying means to shake loose tobacco particles from said cigarettes;
  • a sieve located generally horizontally in said container dividing it into an upper part and a lower vessel part;
  • a vacuum pump operatively associated with said lower vessel part of said container to clear said lower vessel part of said tobacco particles.
  • said conveying means comprises:
  • said rails are comprised of a plurality of longitudinal sections
  • shaking means are operatively associated with at least one of said sections to vibrate said cigarettes placed thereon.
  • said conveying means comprises two spaced apart wires to support and convey said cigarettes deposed transversely across said wires, the space between said spaced apart wires allowing said loose tobacco particles to drop into said container eliminating any possibility of said loose tobacco particles from being conveyed to and deposited in said troughs in said first foil web with said cigarettes.
  • said shaking means comprises electronic devices disposed adjacent at least one of said wires to shake said wires and in turn shake said cigarettes supported across said wires.
