2 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures PUMP MOUNTING ASSEMBLY FIELD OF INVENTION The present invention relates to pump mounting means, and more particularly to mounting means operable to removably mount submersible pumps, vacuum pumps, and the like.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART Means commonly used and employed to mount submersible pumps, vacuum pumps, and the like, have included means which fasten the pump mechanism to the cap plate of the casing. This means of mounting such pumps necessitates sealing the entire length of the easing. Such pumps are restricted as to the depth of a well in which they may be used because the sealing of very long casing lengths requires complex heavy gasketing and easing connectors to maintain a vacuum. A continual problem, particularly for submersible pumps and vacuum pumps, is providing filter means in deep wells to filter out sand and the like.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide mounting means which are operable to permit removal of submersible pumps and vacuum pumps.
It is another object of this invention to provide removable mounting means which are operable to seal the pumping chamber at a point distally below the easing cap plate.
It is a further object of this invention to provide filter means and shoring means at the base of the casing of a well to reduce the amount of particulate matter in the pumping zone.
It is an object of this invention to provide removable pump mounting means and filter and shoring means which will be operable for deep wells.
These and other objects shall become apparent from the description following, it being understood that modifications may be made without affecting the teachings of the invention here set out.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Generally, the pump mounting assembly of this invention comprises a casing assembly and a pump mount. The casing assembly includes a substantially cylindrically shaped, upstandingly disposed casing wall and a casing cap plate selectively lockingly fastened transversely to the uppermost terminal end of the easing wall. The pump mount includes a pump flange, a base flange and a filter liner. The pump flange has a suitable configuration to closely slidably engage the interior of the casing wall. The pump flange is dependently carried by means of a yoke connected to a cable fastened between the yoke and the casing cap plate. The pump flange is also fastened to the water discharging conduit of the pump distally from the pump. The pump flange includes venting means controllable from the yoke. The base flange has a substantially ring-like configuration with the outer configuration similar to the interior configuration of the casing wall, and has an interior hole operable to permit passage of the pump. The base flange is fastened to the interior of the casing wall distally from the lowermost terminal end of the casing. The base flange includes bevelled gear-like teeth provided on its uppermost terminal end. The pump flange includes corresponding bevelled gear-like teeth on its lowermost terminal side operable to interlockingly engage the base flange and the pump flange. The filter liner is fastened to the lowermost terminal edge of the base flange, and includes a substantially cylindrical configuration of a smaller diameter than the diameter of the casing wall. The filter liner includes a multiplicity of holes and a shoring means which may include a pair of outwardly urged paddle-like shoring members.

The casing assembly 11 comprises a casing wall 14 and a casing cap plate 15. The casing wall 14 is substantially cylindrical and is disposed with its rectilinear axis generally vertical. The length of the casing wall 14 is determined by the depth of the well, the wall being coextensive in length with the depth of the well. The uppermost terminal end of the casing wall 14 is closed by a transversely disposed casing cap plate 15. The casing cap plate 15 is selectively lockingly engaged with the uppermost terminal end of the wall 14 by means, such as bolts 16. The cap plate 15 includes suitable passageway for the water-discharging conduit 17 and an exitway 18 for an electrical wire 19. The pump 13 is fastened to the lowermost terminal end of the conduit 17. It is to be understood that the passageway for the conduit 17 and the exitway 18 for the electrical wire 19 include sealing gaskets to close the casing cap plate 15. The casing cap plate 15 is provided with a vent valve means 20 which is selectively operable to permit outside pressure to enter the casing assembly 1 1. As shown by the FIG. 1, the vent 20 is usually held in a closed position by an urging spring 21 which urges the valve portion 22 of the vent 20 to engage the casing cap plate 15. The casing assembly 11 may be vented by selectively depressing the vent 20.
The pump mount 12 includes a suspension yoke 23, a flange 24, a base flange 25, and a filter liner 26. The pump 13 is generally dependently carried from the cap plate 15 by means of a cable 27 which is fastened to the lowermost terminal side of the cap plate 15 by means of an eye-bolt 28 at the uppermost terminal end of the plate 15 and a yoke 23 at the lowermost terminal end of the cable 27. The yoke 23 comprises a fixedly mounted stop shaft 29 and a slidable sleeve 30. The stop shaft 29 is fastened on the conduit 17 distally above the pump 13. The stop shaft 29 comprises a shaft portion 29 and a stop portion 29" which projects outwardly from the uppermost terminal end of the shaft portion 29. The sleeve 30 is operable to slide over the shaft portion 29' and to be stopped by the projecting portion 29". The sleeve portion 30 is provided with a pair of shoulders 30' which project outwardly and provide a suitable receiving means for the cable 27.'The lower portions of the sleeve 30 include a pair of outwardly projecting bracket members 31 and 32.
The pump flange 24 includes a horizontally disposed plate having a configuration substantially similar to the interior configuration of the interior cylindrical walls of the casing 14. The uppermost terminal side of the flange 24 includes an upstandingly disposed capstan portion 33 which is operable to ride within the bracket portion 31. The capstan 33 is provided at its uppermost terminal end with a stop means 33' which is operable to contact the uppermost terminal side of the bracket 31. The flange 24 includes a vent 34 which is substantially similar to the vent set out above. The stem portion 34 of the vent 34 is provided with a head portion which is operable to engage the bracket 32. When the casing cap plate 15 is removed from the casing 14, the cable 27 causes the sleeve 30 to ride upwardly on the stop shaft 29; and, simultaneously, causes the brackets 31 and 32 to release air into the portions of the casing assembly 11 below the flange 24, then to engage the head portion of the-capstan 33, and to raise the pump flange 24, as shown by the FIG. 2.
