WASHING-MACHiNE,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371.981, dated October 25, 1887.
Application filed March 30, 1887. Serial No. 232,980. (No model.)
7 Bluff, in the county of Tehama and State of California, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Wash-Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in wash-boilers; and it consists in a cruciform ejector tapered from below upward, in combination with an arched base which is the segment of a sphere, as will be fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal central section through my improved wash-boilcr,and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse central section of the same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates an ordinary washboiler in which my device is placed for opera tion in washing clothes.
B indicates a false bottom having open sides, and which is bowed or having the form of an arc, the ends f fforming feet on which the same rests, and which is centrally perforated, as at a. This are or arched bottom is the segment of a sphere, and it is arched both longitudinally and transversely for the purpose of confining the water as long as possible nearest the hottest part of the boiler, and causing the water and steam to bubble up with considerable rapidity through the fabrics lying upon said bottom. It will also be observed that by making this bottom laterally and longitudinally of arch form the fabrics lying upon it will be. spread in all directions and will not compact. Rising from the highest part of this spherical segment is a tapered tube, 0, which is provided with many perforations, I). Said tube is attached to said are, and the interior communicates with the space 0 beneath the false bottom.
D D designate lateral outwardly tapered tubes which have their ends ends closed, as at d d, and they are also perforated at e, and are connected to the vertical tube, as shown, and communicate therewith and form a part there of.
It will be observed that the top of the vertical tube and the ends of the lateral tubes are closed, and when the device is placed in a boiler with hot water and the clothes to be washed are placed therein upon the false bottom and around the tubes the steam rises through the vertical tube into the lateral tubes and out the perforations, thus thoroughly cleansing the articles in the boiler.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The within-described improved article of manufacture adapted to be placed within a wash-boiler for the purpose set forth, consisting of the false bottom arched longitudinally and laterally, and a cruciform ejector consisting of a central tube which is tapered upwardly and horizontally perforated, and the horizontal tapered tubular branches having perforations, as shown and described.
In testimony whereo'fI affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.-
LIICINDA NASH SENTER.
