To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE A. OROOKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orowley, in the parish of Acadia and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Washboiler, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to washing-machines of the boiler type which heat the water and cause it to circulate, the dirt being loosened and removed from the clothing by the water in its travel.

An essential feature of the invention is the provision of means for supporting the clothes or articles to be boiled a distance from the bottom of the boller and preventing the discharge ends of the heating-pipes beneath the boiler from being stopped and choked, said result being attained by means which will be described at length hereinafter.

For a full understanding of the merits and advantages of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings and the following description.

The improvement is susceptible of various changes in the form ,proportion, and the minor details of construction without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and to a full disclosure of the invention an adaptation thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the wash ing-machine inverted. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan View.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in the several views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.

As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the body of the machine is of circular outline, and its bottom has applied thereto a series of separate and distinct pipes 2 of like form, but varying in length, the extreme pipes being the shortest and the center pipes the longest and the pipes intermediate varying in length progressively to approximate the varying length of chords, as clearly indicated in Fig. 1. The pipes are disposed in parallel relation and as close together as practicable, and their ends have elbows which make connection with the bot tom of the body 1 and open into the latter. I

This disposition of the pipes practically provides a tubular bottom, the ends of the tubes communicating with the interior of the body adjacent to the sides, whereby a maximum amount of heating-surface is provided.

' The water to be heated, whether for laundry or other purposes, is supplied to the body of the machine, and the latter is placed upon a stove or other heating device, which soon raises the water to the boiling-point by the extended heating-surface and by the circulation of the water through the various pipes. When clothes are to be boiled, they are placed upon a skeleton bottom 8, which forms a rest or support therefor and holds them at a proper distance above the bottom of the machine, so as to prevent the clogging of'the pipes and the consequent stoppage of the circulation. This skeleton bottom may be constructed of wire or in any manner found most convenient, so as to attain the objects of the invention. In order to prevent this skeleton bottom from rising under the influence of the ascending currents of water and, furthermore, to retain it in place, it is provided centrally with a collar or tubular head 9, internally threaded to make screw-thread connection with a stud 10, soldered or otherwise secured to the bottom of the body and projecting vertically from the center thereof.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is 8 5 In a washing-machine, a body or boiler having a vertical stud rising centrally from its bottom, a series of pipes disposed in parallel relation beneath the bottom of the boiler and having their end portions in communication therewith, and a false bottom of skeleton form raised at the center and having a pendent tubular head making screw-thread connection with the aforesaid stud and having its edge in proximal relation to the extremities of the aforedescribed pipes, substantially as set forth.
