ATTORNEY COMB CASE This invention relates to a comb case for holding a plurality of combs, each within its own individual seat for easy access.
More specifically, this invention relates to a comb case having a housing including a plurality of horizontally spaced-apart slots for permitting one or more combs to be seated into the slots.
Comb cases and racks generally consist of holding devices which support combs in the open air where they can become contaminated. In the present invention, a comb rack or case is provided, having an enclosed housing which includes a plurality of horizontally disposed spaced-apart slots along one of its vertical walls. Behind each of the slots within the housing is included a seat forming a trough which receives the toothed edge of each of the combs placed in the slots. The slots and seat slope downwardly so that the back of the comb projects upwardly on the face of the housing after it has been seated. This provides easy access for the user to remove the comb when needed.
It is therefore an object according to the present invention to provide a comb case for supporting a plurality of combs in a partly displayed position.
It is another object according to the present invention to provide a comb case having a plurality of seats for supporting the combs to permit individual and selective removal thereof.
It is still another object according tothe present invention to provide a comb case which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture and reliable in operation.
Other objects and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description considered in connection with the accompanying drawings which disclose the embodiments of the invention. It is to be understood, however, that the drawings are designed for the purpose of illustration only and not as a definition of the limits of the invention.
In the drawings, wherein similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the comb case showing the user about to insert a comb into one of its slots; and
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along section 2-2 of FIG. 1.
I Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, there is shown comb case according to the invention having an upstanding housing which includes a plurality of slots 11, 12, 13 and 14. Slots 11-14 are preferably formed on front surface 16 which slopes slightly away from the vertical. Slots ll14 are also preferably parallel. At the lower entrance of each of slots 11-14 is formed a shelf 18 which intersects with a wall 17 to form a plurality of troughs within housing 10. Slots 11-14 are preferably slightly larger in width and length than combs 15, so that the combs can be removably inserted into the slots with their teeth resting in the trough formed by shelves 18 and wall 17. The bottom edges 17 of housing 10 are preferably define an opening at the bottom of the housing to permit the comb case to be easily cleaned.
Shelves 18 and wall 17 are preferably integrally formed with housing 10 as a single piece construction and open at their ends for ventilation within hqusin 10. Housing 10 is preferably constructed of plastic, a ough meta or wood would also be suitable. The sloping shelves 18 which are defined behind slots 11-14 in combination with the sloping front face 16 of housing 10, permit the backs of combs 15 to easily grasped when required by the user. Moreover, the sloping shelves also aid in retaining combs 15 within holder 10 against accidental removal.
While only a few embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it will be obvious that many changes and modifications may be made thereunto without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A comb rack for removably retaining a plurality of combs comprising:
a hollow housing having at least one flat wall surface with a plurality of horizontal spaced-apart comb receiving slots formed in said wall surface,
a shelf projecting from the bottom edge of each of said slots and inclined downwardly, each of said shelves being open at their ends within said hollow housing, and
a back wall integrally formed against the edge of each of said shelves and common to each of said shelves to form a plurality of troughs to permit the combs to drain upon the shelves, said shelves per mitting ventilation within the hollow cavity of said housing during use of the comb rack.
