lUNlTED Starts Parent CHARLES VON DER LINDEN, OF RHINEBEOK, NEWV YORK.
CORK-=FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,771, dated October 18, 1887.
Application filed March 5, 1887. Serial No. 229,795. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES VON DER LIN- DEN, of Rhinebeek, in the county of Dntchess and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cork-Fastener, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming apart thereof, in which- Fignre l is a side elevation of my improved cork-fastener, showing its application to the neck of a bottle. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same detached from the bottle, and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view showing the open position of the fastener in dotted lines.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective fastener for the corks of bottles designed for containing effervescing liquids.
My invention consists in two plates of metal, each bent twice at right angles in the same direction, forming long and short arms, the longer arms being pivotally connected by a rivet, the shorter arins having their extremities concaved to fit them to the neck ofa bottle.
The plates A A, of which the fastener is made, are each bent twice at right angles, forming arms a b, projecting in the same direction, the arms a being perforated and conneeted by a rivet, c. The extremitiesof the arms 5 are concaved to adapt them to fit over the neck of a bottle. The plate Ais provided with a perforation, d, for receiving a wire or nail, to form a lever for detaching the cork fastener.
The fastener is applied to a cork by bringing the two arms together, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, then slipping it upon the neck of the bottle and over the cork, then turning the parts so as to bring the two halves of the fastener in line, causing the arms b b to engage opposite sides of the bottle-neck underneath the collar of the neck, as shown in Fig. 1.
The fastener is detached by reversing the operation just described.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A corkfastener formed of two similar v plates, A A, each bent twice at right angles in the same direction, forming the long arms a and the short arms b, thelong arms being connected by a rivet, c, and the short arms being coneaved to receive the bottle-neck, substantially as described.
2. A corki'astener formed of two similar plates, A A, each bent twice at right angles in the same direction, forming the long arms a and the short arms I), the long arms being connected by a rivet, c, the short arms being concaved to receive the bottleneck, and the plate A being provided with the aperture 01, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
CHARLES VON DER LINDEN.
