paper is suspended by a link or plate, so that the paper can be detached from the roll piece by piece, and provided with a locking device that retains the link or plate until the paper is exhausted. A new roll can then be securely and quickly attached, to be operated upon in the same manner.

In the drawings, Figure 1 shows the iniproved holder with an oval roll attached and the manner of separating the sheets for use.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the roll, taken in the line :v w of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a rear view of the holder. Fig. 4. is a view of the tumbler by means of which the roll is secured to the holder. Fig. 5 is a rear view of the holder when said tumbler is constructed with two tongues. Fig. 6 is a view of the tumbler, shown detached when so constructed.

a is an oval roll of paper. Attached to this paper is shown a connecting-link, I), having a T-head, c, and a slot, d, by means of which it is locked into the holder. This link can be readily inserted in another roll when the paper is exhausted, one link being provided for each holder.

Thelockin g operation is performed by means of a tumbler, g, the edge of which passes into the slot d in the connecting-link b. The tumbler is shown with two trunnions, h h, which fit into sockets t t, permitting an oscillating motion and enabling it to be pushed away from the opening f in the holder by the connecting-link b, so as to drop into the slot d of such connecting-linkb. Thus the roll of paper is very easily attached to the holder, and is retained there until it is entirely used up. By

pushing up the link I) through the openingf after the paper is entirely gone from its T-head 0,-it can be withdrawn from the holder e, as the edge of the tumbler 9 will leave the slot (1 of the link I). The holder is then in the condition to receive another roll of paper. The trunnions and sockets are not essential features. A. simple flat tumbler without trun- .nions or sockets to receive them would operate in the same manner; or a flat metal or wire spring might be substituted for the turnbler.

By this construction there is produced a very simple and inexpensive holder to which 6 5 the roll is very readily attached, and as the roll has no movement a minimum of space is required for it. The paper is withdrawn from the roll sheet by sheet by taking hold of it at its free end and pulling down. In Fig. 1 this is represented by the hand taking hold of the paper.

In Figs. 5 and 6 there is exhibited a construction of holder intended for wider paper than that shown in Fig. l. The construction is substantially the same, with the exception that the tumbler is made with a double tongue and the slots (2 (Z in link b made to conform thereto.

In some instances two or more suspensionlinks may be used, the rolls of paper having suitable openings to receive them, and the holder provided with a single tumbler with two or more tongues, or each tongue may be a separate tumbler acting independently.

It is clear that the invention is equally ap plicable for the suspension of a cylindrical roll of paper, should it be desirable to do so.

I claim- 1. The toilet or wrapping paper holder 6, having openingf and containing a tumbler, g, in combination with the roll of paper suspended from the slotted connecting-link b, by means of which said holder and roll are connected together, substantially as described.
