Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 25, 1921.
Application filed May 14, 1921. Serial No. 469,622.
T 0 all whom it may concern 1 Be it known that we, JosErH EDoUA n) FRE- CHETTE and LOUIS HAoH'Ez, both subjects of the'King of Great Britain, residing at Low ell, in the State of Massachusetts, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'lictjura Frames; and we'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in picture frames.
The primary object of the invention, is the provision of a counterpart picture frame, including two sections, each of which carries a picture, which is disposed through the outer sides of the said frame.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for locking said frame together. 7
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for attaching said frame together, in such manner that it can be quickly separated if desired.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a picture frame, such as above referred to, which supports the pictures in spaced relation, exposed through the outer sides of the said frame, in such manner as to prevent dampness from eflecting or discoloring the same.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a picture frame such as above referred to, which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efiicient in use, and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination, and arrangement of parts to be here.- inafter more fully described, claimed. and illustrated in the' accompanying drawings, forming a part of the present application: and in which,
Figure 1 is a view looking at the inner side of one of said frame sections;
Fig. 2 is a similar view, looking at the inner side of the other of the sections;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through one side of the frame, showing the sections in engagement; and,
. Fig. 4: is a vertical sectional View taken therethrough.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, by corresponding characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates ingeneral,-.my improved picture frame which consists of a pair of detachable sections 6 and 7, which may be of any shape and size, but for the purposes of illustration, are shown in the accompanying drawings, as being rectangular, cmnprising opposite side members 8 and 9, connected at their upper and lower ends by the usual end members 10.
The inner faces of the side members 9 are provided with vertically disposed parallel grooves 11, in which are secured fastening elements 12 each of which comprises a pair of spring side members 13, bent inwardly intermediate their ends as shown at 14, to
provide gripping notches 15.
The upper ends of these members 12, are secured, as shown at 16 within the grooves 11 in spaced relation to the bottoms thereof, and the lower ends of the said members 12 are curved outwardly, as shown at 17, in Fi 4.
taples 18 extend from the inner sides of the section 6 and are spaced apart a suflicient distance for insertion Within the grooves 11, above referred to.
In securing the two sections 6 and 7 together, the staples 18 are inserted in the bottoms of the grooves 11 and are moved upwardly therein, until the ends of the members 12 pass between the opposite sides of the staples and the latter seat themselves in the notches 15 above referred to.
When in this position it will be readily seen that the sections 6 and 7 will be securely held together against any undesired displacement, supporting the pictures (not shown) in such manner that they will be exposed through the outer sides of the sections 6 and 7. The device may be suspended from the wall in the usual manner, and the person in cleaning up the room, may from time to time, turn the frame so that either one or the other of the pictures can be placed on observation, as desired.
It will also be seen that by supporting the frame in such manner, the rear of the pictures is not exposed to the dampness of the walls and the like, and the life of the same will thus be greatly lengthened, and the pictures will be prevented from becoming stained by such dampness.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that a picture frame is provided, which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device, and it should be understood in this connection, that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described the invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is a 1. A picture frame comprising a pair of sections, one of which has grooves therein, fastening devices mounted in the grooves,
and staples carried by the other section, for engagement with the fastening devices, for securing said sections together.
2. A picture frame of the type described, comprising a pair of sections, the'sides of one section having grooves provided in the inner face thereof, spring fastening devices including resilient side members having notches therein, located within the grooves and spaced from the bottoms thereof, staples carried by the side members of the opposite section, for insertion'into the grooves and engagement within the notches of the fastening devices, and pictures mounted in the frame and exposed through the outer side thereof.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands.
LOUIS HACHEZ.
JOSEPH EDOUARD FRECHETTE.
