INV NTOR T051410 TSUJIMQTO MANS BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to apparel and more specifically to mens undergarments.
2. Description of the Prior Art Previous to the present invention, briefs were constructed mainly of inelastic cloth and were unable to expand or contract so as to achieve a comfortable fit. When elastic cloth was used, due to the uncertainty in the expanding and contracting of the cloth, the briefs have not been able to expand and contract in accordance with a mans motion when he put thereon. In addition to this, the briefs heretofore used have had crepe.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention comprises an elasticized mans brief which fits snugly and at the same time allows its wearer freedom of movement.
In the brief of this invention the direction in which the cloth can expand or contract is predetermined. The back body expands and contracts in a horizontal direction while the front body expands and contracts in a vertical direction. One of the advantages of this invention is that there is no pressure upon the body, regardless of the position of the body, by the brief, since the center region of the briefs front body can expand. Another advantage is that while exercising or bending and stretching one does not feel the tightness of the brief because of the elasticity of its front body. Still a further advantage of the brief lies in the convenience with which its wearer can answer the call of nature. This is due to the fact that the opening of the brief becomes larger as the front body expands in a vertical direction. And even after easing nature a good appearance is retained since said opening contracts immediately and does not remain elongated.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a front view of one embodiment of the mans brief of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a front view of a second embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 3 is a rearview of the invention as shown in FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially along the plane of section line IV IV of FIG. 2;
FIG. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially along the plane of section line IV-IV of FIG. 2 of another embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 6 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially along the plane of section line VI VI of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 7 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially along the plane of section line VII VII of FIG.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS One embodiment of the invention illustrated in FIG. 1 comprises arranging the wale of the knitting fabric in a horizontal direction in case weft knitting fabric is used for the front body 1 of the brief, or arranging the warp of the fabric in a horizontal direction in the case of crepe, and using said fabric of the front body 1 for forming the upper welt 2 and the downside 3 in the crotch region. In the case where weft knitting fabric is used for the back body, the fabric forms the upper welt 2 and downsides 3 so as to arrange the wale in a vertical direction. In the case of using crepe for the back body, the fabric is used so as to arrange the warp of the crepe in a vertical direction. The right: and left ends of the back body 4 are slantingly joined to the front body at its lateral sides by sewing said right and left ends to said sides at 5. Similarly, the front body 1 and the back body 4 are joined by sewing on the downsides 3 in the crotch region. An elasticized fabric with tape along its length is sewed adjacent to the lower welt and elastic tape 6 is inserted therein to provide the requisite elasticity for the lower welt.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2, the front body and back body of the brief are made of the same fabric as in the embodiment in FIG. 1. In the brief shown in FIG. 2, only one edge, either the left or the right, of the front body 21 is attached to the edge of back body 24 by sewing along its entire length. The other edge is attached to the edge of back body 24 by sewing only at its upside and at the downside. Thus the middle, which is not attached, forms an opening. As illustrated in FIG. 4, elastic tape 6a is inserted from the upside 28 to the downside 29 into the opening, folded down and pouched, along the edge of the front body 21.
The embodiment in FIG. 5 includes attaching the elastic tape 6b by sewing it to the edge of the back body 24. The front body 21 and back body 24 are joined by sewing on the downside 33 in the crotch region. On the lower welt, an elastic tape is attached by sewing.
What is claimed is: I
l. A mans brief comprising a one layer and one piece narrow front body portion of knitted elastic fabric having two side edges and a bottom crotch edge extending from the waist region to the crotch region and having the wales thereof extending laterally to provide vertical stretchability to the brief in the area of the front body portion, and a one-layer and one-piece rear body portion of knitted elastic fabric having two side edges and a bottom crotch edge extending from the waist region to the crotch region and joined to and overlapping said front body portion across the front of the brief at the side edges of said rear body portion and the side edges of the front body portion, and at the crotch at the bottom crotch edge of said rear body portion and the bottom crotch edge of the front body portion and having the wales thereof extending vertically to provide lateral stretchability to the garment in the area of the rear body portion and wherein one of the side edges of said front body portion is attached by sewing to one of the side edges of the back body portion only adjacent the waist and crotch regions and the unattached middle section of said edge forms a fly opening, and wherein elastic tape is attached adjacent said side edge of the front body portion along a line of stitching extending from the waist to the crotch regions and wherein the other side edge of the front body portion is joined to the other side edge of the rear body portion by stitching along their entire overlapped length.
