Abstract

A beauty aid mirror assembly which frees a person''s hands from holding individual mirrors to view all sides of a head while combing or pinning the hair, the assembly consisting of a set of two individual mirrors each of which is rotatable 360* and tiltable 90* by means of a pair of swivel joints supported by a slide slidable along a channelled extension arm which at its one end is attached pivotally to a bracket mountable either to a vertical supporting surface such as a wall or chest drawer, or which can be supported from a base placed upon a horizontal surface such as a desk, make up table, or the like.

It is generally well known that two mirrors must be employed, working together, in order to see all around a persons head, one mirror being stationarily placed while the other is held in the hand and positioned so to reflect an image of the rear or side areas into the stationary mirror. The situation is of course objectionable in view that a person must use one hand for holding the movable mirror, thus allowing only the other one hand to be free in performing any beautification task such as combing or pinning up the hair at the rear or side areas. This situation is therefore in want of improvement.

Accordingly it is a principle object of the present invention to provide a beauty aid mirror unit which allows a persons both hands to be free to comb or pin the hair.

Another object is to provide a beauty aid mirror unit which includes a set of two individual mirrors for cooperation together so that one mirror in a remote out of view position can transmit an image into the other mirror that is located within a viewing range so that an individual can see all sides of their own person.

Yet another object is to provide a beauty aid mirror unit wherein each mirror can be individually positioned and temporarily secured in the selected position for utility.

Yet another object is to provide a beauty aid mirror unit which may be designed for support either from a vertical surface such as a wall of a room or chest drawer or which otherwise can be mounted on a base for placement upon a desk, make up table or dressing table.

Yet a further object is to provide a beauty aid mirror unit which is additionally adaptable to support lights so to illuminate the area of the hair that is being combed or pinned up.

Other objects are to provide a beauty aid mirror unit, which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention which is of wall-mounted type.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a pedestal supported type of the invention.

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation view of a drawer chest mirror mounting of the invention.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, and more particularly to FIG. 1 at this time, the reference numeral represents a Beauty Aid Mirror Unit, according to the present invention wherein there is an elongated channel 11 which at one end 12 is attached pivotally free by means of a bolt 13 to a bracket 14 so that the channel is pivotable along a horizontal plane. 'The bracket 14 is of U-shaped configuration with parallel horizontal arms, 15, between which is a space 16 into which the channel end 12 is fitted. The bracket 14 is secured stationarily to a vertical wall 17.

Along the channel 11, a pair of slide units 18 are supported slidably free, each of the slide units comprising a rectangular sleeve 19 fitted around the channel, each of the sleeves having a swivel joint 20 upon its upper side. An angular rod 21 at one end is integral with a spherical ball 22 freely rotatable in a spherical groove 23; the ball 22 and groove 23 forming the swivel joint 20. At their opposite ends 24 the rods 21 have a fiat tongue 25 having an elongated slot 26 therethrough.

An individual mirror assembly 27 supported on the rod 21 includes a flat tongue 28 with elongated slote 29 therethrough. The

26 and 29 are aligned so to receive a bolt 30 therethrough for adjustably attaching the tongues together; the bolt 30 receiving a securing nut 31. The tongue 28 is integral with one end of a rod 35 which at its opposite end is integral with a spherical ball 32 freely rotatable in a spherical groove 33 of a fitting 34; the ball 32 and groove 33 forming together a second swivel joint 39.

The fitting 34 is secured by rivets 36 to a frame or backplate 37 supporting a mirror 38.

As shown in FIG. 1, it is now readily evident that the two individual mirrors 38 are adjustable so to assume various positions respective to each other and in relation to a person using them to comb or pin up her hair. The swivel joints have sufficient frictional movement so that the mirrors will remain in any position into which they are temporarily or permanently moved. Each of the swivel joints can be rotated 360 about their axes to assume any azimuth angle. The axis of each can make a maximum angle of 90 swing in all directions. The swivel joints offer maximum mobility for the mirrors for locating an object which when viewing is desirable.

In operative use, when a set of comb and pin mirrors is combined with a large mirror as found on a chest of drawers, all sections of a human head can be viewed without further moving of the mirrors, once they are set in proper positions. When it is used without an extra large mirror, the two mirrors of this comb and pin mirror set can be used in viewing approximately percent of a human head with one proper positioning.

Referring now to FIG. 2 of the drawing, a beauty aid mirror unit 40 is shown which is generally similar to the beauty aid mirror unit 10, except that the unit 40 is pedestal mounted for being placed upon a desk or make up table. Accordingly, the unit 40 includes a horizontal base 41, upon which the bracket 14 is secured, the bracket having the channel 11 attached thereto by the rivet 13 as above described. The opposite end of the channel 1 1 has a cross head 42, shown also in FIG. 1 but not utilized in the formerly described Figure. In the form of the Invention illustrated in FIG. 2, the cross head 42 slidably receives the sleeves 19 so to support the slide units 21 above described in detail, each one of which includes the mirror assembly 27 also above described.

In FIG. 3 of the drawing, there is illustrated a mounting unit 43 wherein the bracket 14 is positioned along one longitudinal side of the channel end 12 so that a bolt 13 transversely through the channel 11 holds the channel pivotally free to the bracket. A rivet 44 secures the bracket to a vertical wall 45 of a chest of drawers 46.

Thus modified support means have been shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 for the structure illustrated and described in detail in FIG. 1.

While certain novel features of my invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without parting from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. in a beauty aid mirror assembly, the combination of an elongated channel with an integral cross head supporting a pair of slide units, each of said slide units supporting a mirror assembly having adjustability means for selective position of a mirror during use by a person combing her hair or setting pins therein, each of said slide unit comprising a sleeve selectively slidable along said cross head, each said sleeve on the upper side having a swivel joint attached to one end of an angular rod which at the other ends is formed into a flat first tongue with longitudinal slot for supporting said mirror assembly, each of said mirror assembly comprising a flat mirror secured to a mounting means attached to a fitting connected to a second swivel joint at one end of a rod which at its other end forms a second tongue having a longitudinal slot for securement adjustably to said tongue, wherein said first and second tongues are positioned adjacent each other for receiving a securing bolt therethrough both said tongue slots, said bolt being secured by a nut, wherein said cross head is integral with one end of said channel in a T- shaped configuration,- the opposite end of said channel having means for support on various objects and said sleeves each comprising a frame around a rectangular opening, said opening having a width equal to a thickness of said channel or thickness of said cross head, and a length equal to a width of said channel or width of said cross head.

2. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said mounting means comprises opening means for securement to a vertical wall by means of mounting screws.

3. The combination as set forth in claim I wherein said mounting means comprises a singular opening for receiving a singular mounting rivet secured to a horizontal base for placement upon a desk or make up table.

4. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said bracket is positioned along one longitudinal side of said channel, said bracket being supported to a vertical side of a chest of drawers.

Claims

1. In a beauty aid mirror assembly, the combination of an elongated channel with an integral cross head supporting a pair of slide units, each of said slide units supporting a mirror assembly having adjustability means for selective position of a mirror during use by a person combing her hair or setting pins therein, each of said slide unit comprising a sleeve selectively slidable along said cross head, each said sleeve on the upper side having a swivel joint attached to one end of an angular rod which at the other ends is formed into a flat first tongue with longitudinal slot for supporting said mirror assembly, each of said mirror assembly comprising a flat mirror secured to a mounting means attached to a fitting connected to a second swivel joint at one end of a rod which at its other end forms a second tongue having a longitudinal slot for securement adjustably to said tongue, wherein said first and second tongues are positioned adjacent each other for receiving a securing bolt therethrough both said tongue slots, said bolt being secured by a nut, wherein said cross head is integral with one end of said channel in a Tshaped configuration, the opposite end of said channel having means for support on various objects and said sleeves each comprising a frame around a rectangular opening, said opening having a width equal to a thickness of said channel or thickness of said cross head, and a length equal to a width of said channel or width of said cross head.

3. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said mounting means comprises a singular opening for receiving a singular mounting rivet secured to a horizontal base for placement upon a desk or make up table.
