To all whom it may concern;
Be itknown that we, FRED J. HAsriNes and HAZEN S. LITTLEEIELD, citizens of the United States, and residents of Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inl Boots or Shoes; and We do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and t0 letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.

Our invention relates to boots, shoes, or slippers; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to manufacture boots, shoes, o r slippers with an elastic gore, elastic cord, and metallic fastenings, so conlbined and applied as to give the boot, shoe, or
parts being so arranged as to be quickly and easily fastened, to form, so far as the ankle is concerned, a selffitting boot, shoe, or slipper.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates a shoe to which our improvements are shown applied.
B designates the opening extending from the top of the leg C of the shoe clear down to the E is the tongue-piece, which is connected to the inner face of the quarter F, and extends Just back the studs G, which are seated in the material Serial No. 227,425. (No model.)V
of the quarter, and are secured in any suitable manner-eas by upsetting the inner ends ofthe studs.
The iiy H of the shoe is provided with an elastic gore, Z, and is also provided with an elastic cord, I, which latter is insertedin said fly in imitation of lacing. On its inner face the fly H is provided with metal hooks K,

'1. In a boot or shoe, the combination, with the quarter provided with the studs having lips thereon, of the ily provided with the elastic gore, the elastic cords, and the hooks on its inner face, substantially as specified.

A boot, shoe, or slipper having the elastic gore and the gorecord madewith the iiy, the hooks fastened to the same by eyelets through which the elastic cord plays over the gore, and 7o the quarter provided with the studs having` hooks thereon, whereby the boot is given the appearance of a lace boot,I substantially as specified.
